Y'all know I love a good challenge, right? If it's not
this chest that lost a drawer in transport, then it's
this set of underbed drawers found curbside, or even
this dilapidated dressing table. However, sometimes even the smallest of things can leave you scratching your head as you decide whether or not to toss a certain item. Well, take a look at this vintage wall art. It's certainly cute and while I can see it in a Nordic style cottage home, it doesn't quit suit mine.

The one thing it has going for it is that it is made out of wood. Pine, nonetheless, but still solid wood. Honestly, I really had no idea when this came into my possession. What would you do with it? It's missing the hardware to hang it and isn't really that big at about 14" high. Let's have at it, shall we?
A VISION
First, I take it in hand, turn it round, and decide to lay it on my miter saw chopping block. Don't look if you're squeamish!

Then, as soon as I get it into two pieces, I head to my box of salvaged wood pieces and trims to see what I can create.

I will admit that my stash is dwindling, which means this
trashure gal needs to go hunting. What a shame, eh? haha. After digging a bit, I come up with this antique mirror brace and a few bits left over from making my reclaimed birdhouses.

Next, I predrill the mirror brace and into the vintage wall art pieces to make a dry fit to see how this all plays out. It doesn't look like much now, but give me a sec.
DECORATE
Finally, as soon as I'm happy with my setup I begin to add the finishing touches. Call me crazy, but I see a cabbage and a carrot in a little garden patch. With that in mind, I begin to paint my "veggies" with a base coat of paint on both pieces.

Likewise, I want to create depth by adding some spackling leaves. You can also see how I use spackling with stencils to create story-telling pieces with
embossing HERE. Also, I pull out these vintage game pieces that a sweet friend, Billie, thought I could make use of. Aren't they cute?
GARDEN TIME
Last, let's take a peek at my vintage wall art turned garden whimsy.

tee hee. I thoroughly adore
my garden for all that it teaches me, both weeds and all. It not only reminds me of life on daily basis, but also of lessons learned. Each year we have plans, we plant seeds, and we dream of a bountiful harvest. Maybe drought will come and our plants falter, or maybe plentiful rains nourish the soil and plants. In either event, we carry on with faith there will be next year. As always, God is good.
To be honest, it has been gray and dreary for weeks here, which makes my job not as much fun and even harder to take pictures, but my little cabbage and carrot are ready for harvest.
SHARE
Okay, so tell me...did you see a garden coming out of that little decor piece? Maybe not, or maybe you saw something else. Either way, my goal is to inspire to create your own home story using what you have on hand, find in a donation box, or create from bits and pieces. If you'd like to make my garden creation part of your home, you can find it and more available in
my online shop.
