What always makes my work fun is the fact that I never work on the same piece twice. As soon as I complete my project, it heads to a new home. The blessing comes when I can see the derelict, the seemingly unloved, and the damaged come into my possession to receive a new lease on life. However, I don't pretend to be a miracle worker, but only try to make things beautiful so they are loved again. Check out this wood console makeover about to happen. Pine Console Before Makeover | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces Can you see I have Lily's approval? She's such a sass and shows her indignation at our new puppy, Loula. haha. Although they are still at odds (because of Lily's choosing) they are warming up to each other slow and steady. With that in mind, let's look at this newly adopted console cabinet. It is made of pine with knots and all. Not only is it sturdy, but it also has Mid-Century Modern vibe to it with the lines. Open Pine Wood Console | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces What to do with it? Well, my sander is itching to come out and play in the balmy 18-degree weather. ugh. At least the sun is shining this day!

DRESS IT UP

First, I use my wood filler to take care of all the dents and dings all over it. Additionally, someone also had the audacity to carve star shapes into the doors. Ah well...it's nothing my sander can't fix. Sanded Pine Wood Console Cabinet | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces furniture diy While I could just topcoat it and call it new, I want to adda a bit more spunk with color. Next, I use this same color I have from my pine bench makeover HERE. It's the darkest of greens and so rich. Painting Wood Console Cabinet in Green | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces makeover diy Meanwhile, I use a lighter shade of green to paint the interior so when those doors are open it's all happy times on the inside. Oh, and as soon as the paint cures, between and after two coats, I apply two coats of a matte poly topcoat. Who would throw a hand-embroidered Tin Lizzie away? In any event, my wood console cabinet makeover is complete with a new story to tell. I could see this at the end of a bed storing books and blanket, or in an entry keeping hidden outerwear necessities. Likewise, it's useful as a television console, but who needs a TV? {{wink, wink}} If you'd like to make it part of your home, you can find it and more available in my online store. Our household received a new puppy for Christmas also and I can relate to the mix of emotions. I swing constantly from "oh isn't that cute" to "if you bite me again, I'm going to put you in time-out". Marley has changed my routine DRASTICALLY. I've followed your makeovers for quite some time and you've never failed to inspire me. I've enjoyed the home remodeling, advice on brushes and tools, and particularly the encouraging outlook you have on faith and the importance of family. God bless you and "keep it coming"

Yes, I adore wood, but the rest had wear that deemed paint necessary. Thank you, Shelley.

Mine too!! :D It's so rick and deep. Haha!! My sister's cat took a year to warm up to their dog, so I'm going to give it time. Here's hoping!

This is one of my favorites of recent projects you’ve done. I love the contrast between the paint and the wood and the way the grain pops!

Thank you. I've had much on my plate and miss doing "normal" things...whatever that is for me. haha!

Yes!!!! This one is a stunner for sure. Living in the remote plains of NE Montana things like this are hard to find. The raw wood on the doors is so pretty, and I really like the shades of green as well. I’m glad you are enjoying your fur babies.

I bet! It can be feast or famine here, for sure. :D I was so happy that I could keep the doors grain in the raw. Thanks so much, Niki!

I love this piece! I've always loved the contrast of paint and wood (stained or not). I did a piece for my son in black with the wood contrast and it's his favorite. Thank you for your inspiration.

I love the color you chose for the console! So modern! The salad bowls that you show at the bottom of this post are exactly the same ones we received as a wedding gift in 1984 lol! I can’t wait to see what you do with them!
