It's time for some more trashure fun as I pull out the next subject from my wood haul. Yes, this looks quite dilapidated and a hot mess, but don't we all look like this from time to time? haha. Thankfully, I'm not a quitter and couldn't bear to let this poor thing go to the trash. It's about to become a cute cottage style vintage recipe box. Hang with me... Vintage Recipe Box Before Repair & Makeover by Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com If you've missed my first post about a whole lotta wooden loot I received a few weeks ago, stop over HERE and take a peek. In addition, you can see what I'm referencing below. Thrifted Wood Items Yet to be Saved by Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com I love to peruse the wooden section of the thrift store for cast-off goodies. I'm then blessed with this treasure trove of fun. This is where my vintage recipe box came from, however, it's not ready to be that yet.

DIY TIME

For your viewing fun, I've created a video tutorial for you below, but have also shared my steps here. First, I obviously needed to reassemble this poor thing. I used my wood glue, my nailer, and some wood filler to get it back into shape. Gluing, Nailing, and Applying Wood Filler to Vintage Recipe Box | prodigalpieces.com Next, after it all cured, I sanded it down with my sander to get it ready for the next step, which I bet you can guess...paint. UP NEXT

While the first coat was curing, I began to dig around in my stash of wooden goodies and remembered seeing this vintage recipe box in my stash. Vintage Recipe Box Before Makeover by Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com It appeared to be the right size to fit right in the empty space in my project piece. Score!! Likewise, it would meet the fate of paint to give it a few coats of a soft pink and highlight the details. Okay, so back to my spray-painting fun. I added one more coat of the white and let it cure. Then I decided to have some cottagey fun with stripes. This is easily done with a painter's tape and measuring out the stripes. Again, I use my Square Brush and this Vintage paint to create fun contrasting stripes. Painting Stripes on Vintage Recipe Box | prodigalpieces.com Are you ready to see it all come together? I am! At last my little vintage recipe box is revived and now has more spunk. woot! I hope you are inspired to see past the broken and see the potential that is there. I liken it to the way we may see ourselves sometimes, while God is eagerly waiting to make us new again. I'm so thankful He can see past what others or us may see. One word to say about the box; Adorable. Ok, cute as well. I so do like that when people take the time to line the inside of the drawers. Makes items look more finished when lined. OMG I have a buffet just exactly like that. My buffet I bought also came with matching table (can seat 12) (has 3 leaves that came with)along with 5 regular chairs and 1 that I call the 'Queens' chair (mine) (has the arms on the chair). Can't wait to see what you do with your buffet. Mine is still in it's original beautiful state.
