Each month I have fun participating in our
Themed Furniture Makeovers, and this time around I'm letting my oldest son step up to the plate with his latest project piece, a vintage chest of drawers. AND...I have an awesome giveaway for you!

I totally encourage my six children to join me in my work and they are always chomping at the bit to have some fun with paint and
learn a trade. When I went to pick up the primitive cupboard, I just used to show you
how to update old wood with stain, the lady also offered us this vintage chest. My furniture lovin' self could have taken it as my own. However, I offered it to my son and he chose to purchase it. (he knows to bring his wallet along when mama is on an adventure. hee hee)

Not only is it as solid as a rock, but it also took us a great amount of effort to get it down her narrow, twisting flight of stairs. Oh, the stories we have!
Although it has some deep scratches to the drawer fronts, those may have come out with sanding. Also, the top had worn through spots as well.

You can see some of his past work on this industrial table and
his vintage desk set. The theme for the month is NEUTRAL, and he debated on doing a paint stain combo to showcase the wood. However, since the gouges were deep and the theme is open to interpretation, he went with his gut and decided to paint.
PAINT TIME
First, he sanded down the finish with my orbital sander to give the paint tooth. With that in mind, when painting a piece of furniture that has either a mahogany or cherry stain, it is best to use a stain blocking primer like Kilz.

Poor guy is crammed in our living room trying to paint as our
kitchen remodel has deemed our house a storage unit. tsk. Nonetheless, he's used to it. Then, when the primer is dry, he chose a gorgeous color. Last, after two coats of paint, and a topcoat of wax, it's time for some bling!

My son chose these amazing gold glass knobs. He loved the look of
my industrial dresser and
his sister's dresser that we worked on. I wish you could see them in person because they have an awesome crackle design.
THE REVEAL
Finally, put it all together and what do you get? A gorgeous vintage chest with a modern look.

Didn't my teenager do GOOD?! I love the color and those knobs made the piece.

Nothing like seeing your children learn from you and seeing the fruits of their labor. Additionally, if you would love to own this vintage chest, you can find it available in
myonline shop - we ship to your door!
