It isn't every time that I make a good score at the thrift store. It's kinda like a desert with random oases. Do you know what I mean? What makes it even more funny is that everyone there is like they're in a gold mine protecting their cart of loot and ready to fight for it. geesh! In my latest run, I snagged this little painted cutie. Today, I'm going to take it up a notch and turn it into a vintage apothecary cabinet. Medicine Cabinet Before Makeover by Larissa of Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com I wasn't kidding about the folks in a thrift store. I've seen some fight after one took something out of another one's cart. Imagine my eyeballs popping out with mouth hanging open like...what??? haha. Funny, but not funny. Anyhoo, I just smile and carry on with my business making short-talk with a smile to anyone I encounter. I'm a fun gal like that.

TOO CUTE

The minute when I saw this cabinet, I did a quick check on it and tucked it into my cart. However, it wasn't until I got it home and looked at it closer that I fell in love with it even more. It's obviously a handmade item, which equals instant charm to me. Then, look at the inside... Open Handmade Vintage Medicine Cabinet | prodigalpieces.com Plenty of space for bottles of all sizes, but my favorite is the clipboard on the door. I'm all about utilitarian function. The person who made this knew that the door might buckle over time, so they ran beads down the door to allow to flex with varying humidity. Smart. Likewise, if you look close, you'll even see a magnetic closure that pops in and out based on if you press once to close, or press again to open. Love it!

DIY TIME

As if this cabinet didn't have enough paint (it was once green, then this beige), I decided to take it up a notch. I whip out my paint brush and some flat black latex paint. Painting Vintage Medicine Cabinet with Black Paint | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces First, I leave a few spots showing of the beige paint, and the interior as-is for now. Then, once the black paint cures, I use my image transfer method and the graphic I created to hand-paint typography on the front. It's just one of those things. ;) Thanks for the compliment. We all took a took a vote and decided to not put one in so larger bottles, like lotions and such can fit.
