If you are new to my blog in the last few weeks, you may have missed the fact that a friend of mine gave me a giant plastic tote of wooden pieces to play with. My kinda fun! It all began with a letter holder I upcycled in this post and then my recipe box. Today, these two pieces are about to become my upcycled washboard & silverware box cupboard. Try saying that 5 times fast. tee hee! Vintage Washboard and Silverware Box Before Makeover by Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com At a quick glance, the vintage washboard is in excellent shape and would be just fine left as-is. However, just hanging it on the wall (how I have mine in my own home) is fine, but I thought it would be fun to change it up a bit. The silverware box, on the other hand, needed some pep. Open Silverware Box Before Upcycling by Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com First, I began by pulling out the silverware box lining out which wasn't too bad initially. After I removed the lining, I still had remnant paperboard stuck to the sides. As a quick remedy, I lightly spritzed water onto the paperboard and let it soak a bit. Then, using my putty knife, I was able to remove the rest. Cleaning out Vintage Silverware Box for Upcycled Cupboard | prodigalpieces.com

SANDING

After that, I used my Corner Cat sander to remove any glue residue remaining. Sanding Silverware Box Interior with Ryobi Corner Cat Sander | prodigalpieces.com The next part of my upcycled washboard cupboard was to make the silverware box more functional. In order to that I needed to add a few scrap spacers to the deepest part. That task is simple when I use my nailer and wood glue. Don't you just love when that happens?
