In most instances, I at least pick it up to donate it to a local ministry. This time, though, I have a vision for my new addition. Let's have some fun!
DIY TIME
First, I use my circular saw to cut the headboard posts short. No worries, I will upcycle those too. Waste not, want not!
Then, I dig into my stash and pull out a 1" x 6" board to make a shelf and attach with glue and my nailer. Did you notice my headboard is upside-down?
Next, I want to fill in the top spot as well. Using more of my 1" x 6" board, I cut a length to fit. Before I attach it, however, I want to dress it up. I place it under the headboard and trace the shape, and then cut it out with my jigsaw.
For the purpose of stability, I need to use my pocket hole jig to make joints on the ends and on the bottom. Then, I attach with wood screws and my drill.
Before I call assembly complete, I also add a few Shaker pegs for added function and fun. Last, I paint the whole thing with a basic white spray paint and add my own flair.
THE REVEAL
Here is my upcycled headboard into coat or towel rack ready for a new lease on life.
As a result of my sidetracked path home, my upcycled headboard now has new purpose, and, I daresay, even more function that before. woot!
Besides being a great piece for an entry, it can also be used in a bathroom for towels, laundry room, and even your bedroom. I'm curious...where would you use it?
