One thing I make sure is to keep my word. Yes, I may take a day or two off for resting since I had a slight bug, but now I'm good to go. woot! When I received this
hand-me-down sewing machine table, I knew it would be used in more ways than one. While the base became a sweet side table, the top left much to be desired. That leads me to creating this repurposed sewing machine table top project for you.
At first glance, you can see it definitely is painted, it definitely is loved on, and definitely is made of pressed board wood. blah.
That alone limits my choices in what I can do with this because it's brittle and won't hold much. However, do note that I in my past posts I've taken a sewing machine top and came up with a
folding chess board, and also a
mud bar for kids outdoor playtime. Also, do you see
my little Loula helper watching
everything I do?
CREATIING TIME
First, I need to take it all apart to see what I have to work with. I begin by removing the hinge hardware on all pieces.
After that, I use my cutting tool to buzz through the metal pin holding the leaf prop in its slot. Have I ever told you how much I adore my tools? Remember my life-long motto:
toolsoverjewels .
Then, I decide to make use of the two leaves but leave out the machine hole opening center panel. In order to make my idea work, I need to cut off the tongue on the large leaf using my circular saw.
Last, I pre-drill holes through the bottom of the smaller table leaf and into the bottom of the larger leaf so as to create a shelf.
At this point, I want to add a more junkified vibe. I dig into my stash to pull out these braces, hand-forged nails, and other bits and baubles from past projects.
SPRINGTIME REVEAL
Finally, are y'all ready for this? It's simple, fun, and ready for any time of year.
While I've staged it for spring, I can see it used for winter, fall, and summer too.
Doesn't everyone have a stash of rusty old bed springs? tee hee. I have made them
into tree toppers in years past but have since used them for many things here and there.
