My stash of furniture is dwindling (I'm purging, cleaning, and starting over!) and I'm so happy to have room to work and finally get to create with all my other goodies in my shop. There's such joy that comes from taking what some would consider trash and turning it into something functional and fun, especially repurposed barn wood During the this past year's winter months, I had refinished this Art Deco chest of drawers. Art Deco Chest of Drawers Refinished by Larissa of Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces The original mirror had been broken, which left me with an empty mirror frame. I had a replacement mirror in my stash (gotta love having a stash!), and swapped them out. Reclaimed Mirror Frame | prodigalpieces.com Needless to say, I didn't throw it away, but it instantly spoke to me. Finally, I'm able to put my envisioned project together with some more bits and pieces from my stash. Salvaged Wood Pieces for Reclaimed Sign | prodigalpieces.com A piece of repuposed barn wood, some trim from my VW bus dresser, and more goodies from my collected "junk". Would you hang onto this stuff?

DIY TIME

If you flipped the mirror frame upside down, it looked like a shelf. Seemed like the perfect place to add some repurposed barn wood. It was easy enough to attach to those braces with a couple of screws. Drilling Repurposed Barn Wood for Sign | prodigalpieces.com After that, I tacked on that white ornate piece from my VW bus dresser to the top of the barn wood (I didn't use the creepy eye-carved piece, I'm saving that for later). During our city spring clean-up, I grabbed a patio chair that needed TLC. I gave up on it because I didn't have time and set it for free, curbside. I realized there was some awesome hardware on it, so I stripped it down and am now making use of the metal straps. Funny thing is that no one wanted that chair for days, but as soon as I took of the hardware off somebody snatched it up. Ah well... Metal Strips for Reclaimed Wood Sign | prodigalpieces.com Now, I love to make hand-painted signs using my transfer method, but when Angie at Knick of Time asked me if I'd like to try one of her new stencils, I jumped at the chance. Here's what I chose: Vaughan's Seed Store. Vaughn's Seed Store Stencil | prodigalpieces.com Isn't it saaweet? It's rustic, farmhouse, cottage, and primitive all rolled up into one. I knew it would be perfect for my repurposed project. Stenciling Repurposed Barn Wood Sign | prodigalpieces.com Easy to use with the stenciling brush, and oh-so-perfect design.

It's funny that you would post this today since I just started working on an entryway wall rack using parts salvaged from an antique buffet that had been dismantled and stored for decades in my MIL's antique stone garage! I have a beautiful curved solid walnut back piece that I'm using which is 48" long. Just sanded this morning. This is my favorite blog!!
