What time is it? Makeover time! Big surprise, right? Honestly, I've been in a different phase for many reasons which is life-altering, but also therapeutic at the same time. While I'm dealing, I'm creating for my blog and shop and am so eager to share with you my treasures. Check out what caught my eye at a local ministry's thrift store. BOOM! That is a huge wall clock, is it not?

It's a 24" diameter clock face which makes it a perfect size decor showpiece for a room. When I purchased it, I wasn't sure if it was working or not, but I wanted to have fun with it regardless. I seem to have a clock fetish as you can see
HERE in my clock posts. Ain't no shame in my junkin' game!
However, what I did notice straight off that the back is missing. You see, there are several mounts inside the back of the clock where the backing is to be attached.

With that in mind, I need to see if the big ol' beauty still functions as a clock. I pop in a battery on two different occasions and both times it kept time for an hour. yippee!!
NEW LIFE TIME
First, I head out to my workshop and pull out a big piece of scrap luan. (a thin piece of plywood). I trace the clock onto the board.

Then, I break out my jigsaw and cut it about a half-inch inside the trace marking. I want it to be fairly accurate, so before cutting I measure in and mark as well, then cut. While I could have used reclaimed wood, I felt this was a better idea as to not make the backing too busy so that the clock face and clock hands take center stage.

Next, as soon as it's cut, I sand down the rough edges and add an aged wood
reactive stain. I am totally addicted to the stuff, let me tell ya.

Last, for the backing, as soon as that stain cures, I trace on a center circle and fill it in with this
blue milk paint.

Again, I could have added a stencil design, or brush a color on the entire piece, or frame it in another way.
SPRAY PAINT
Finally, we need to take apart our clock and get down to the nitty gritty finish of the frame of the wall clock. I basically have no qualms with the frame as-is, but since I added that aged backing look, I want to brighten it up. What's better than white paint for that, eh?
With my white spray paint in a satin finish, I give the clock frame two coats letting cure between. In addition, just so you know, I have to take that glass part and go HIDE IT in my home. Knowing my gang of 6, someone will find a way to break it. yup. I stash the glass
in the basket on top of my bedroom cupboard while I work. {{eye roll}}

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade the world for my kids, but...I have learned the hard way how to keep things safe. nuff said...hee hee.
MODERN FARMHOUSE FINISH
After my inspiration adventure is complete, here is my farmhouse-styled wall clock updated and ready to go. woot, woot!

Would you have guessed this came from thrift store finds or a garage sale? No way, baby. That's the best part of what I do...getting to inspire you. Maybe that's why
I was nominated one of twenty-one bloggers to have my own HGTV show? hmmm... Well, after a certain magazine kept using my photos on social media without giving me credit and I called them out on it, they removed my photo from the article, but kept the nomination there. However, I don't know that I'd fit into that world and not sure I'd want to. Carrying on!
I must say that I'm totally smitten with the outcome as it lends itself to a different vibe, but also shows what you can do to make something fit your own home story.
DEFINITELY NOT JUNK
As usual, I'm curious...what would you have done with it if you had the chance?
Likewise, if you'd like to make this part of your home story, you can find this and more available in
my online store. It's perfect for your dining room, living room, entry and more.
