Y'all ready for this? Last week in
my antique side table post I mentioned being in a contest this week with four other bloggers. The challenge was to take a set of paint brushes and give them and artistic vibe in my choosing. The winner of the contest gets $350 (yep, oodles of smackers!!). Do you think I can do it? With your help I can. I envision a Volkswagen mini BEEP.
Inside, this is what you see: the boxed set of the project brushes, whereas the bag of brushes contain some newly created brushes that haven't hit the market yet. So, that will be fun to give them a test run.
GAME IS ON
Okay...so you see that boxed set...what do you envision? Think for a minute.
Me and my quirky self saw people. Yep. I not only saw people, but hippies
and a Volkswagen mini BEEP bus! What in the world is a BEEP bus, you say? One of my world renown makeovers is my Art Deco Waterfall chest of drawers that I turned into a Volkswagen Bus. You can read how a broken down freebie got new life
HERE.

For me it was a given that I had to do some sort of BEEP with that long shape the box had. Okay, so to get started I gave the box a primed coat so that my details would look solid. I used the new small triangle brush they sent to get into that box corners.

The brush handles had a hole in them for hanging up to dry, but in this case, I needed a solid surface. I filled them in with dowel and wood filler, then sanded smooth.

To give them a fresh new surface, I also painted them like I did the box.

Time for the fun! This part of the work is a drawn out process as you have to wait for things to dry in layers so you can complete the work. Kinda like using building blocks to build. I used various paints to get the look.
PAINT
To take my Volkswagen mini BEEP up a notch, I used some scrap Sculpey to create a VW emblem and mini windshield wipers. Fun!

Once everything was painted and detailed, it was time to seal it all in with a poly topcoat.

Are you ready for the BIG reveal of my Volkswagen mini BEEP bus and hippie family? {{deep breath}}
SWEET SET
Ta da!!

Can you tell I had a blast with this?! So absolutely fun!! Time to meet the family. {{turn, turn, turn, starts to play}}
Arlo is a free-spirited, groovy guy who loves his kids and taking long rides in their VW bus. Notice the shades, man.

Blaze is a fab mom to her kids, though back in the day she was quite the foxy lady with her long red locks.

Of course this lovely couple decided it would be hip to have kids and welcomed their son, Marley, to the crew. He's a hang-loose kinda guy on his skateboard.

And then there's Clover. A sweet ray of sunshine that is outta sight.

What's a family without a pet, right? Zappa is a tight dog who gets stoked at the possibility of getting to go for a ride in the Volkswagen mini BEEP bus.

Now for the star of the show....mini BEEP.

My boring box got lifted onto some wheels and decked out both inside and out. Tie-dye interior with shag carpet even. hahaha!! I seriously could have gone all out inside there, but had to restrain myself.

There you have my hippie family complete with Volkswagen mini BEEP bus - my entry for this fun contest.

Not only was my only goal in creating this set for the contest, but also to raise money for a local Care Center that offers help to mommies-to-be with crisis pregnancies. This organization does amazing things to educate, provide counseling, even beyond giving them basic needs to assist a mom who is questioning their pregnancies. Many just don't know how they're going to make it.
