If you're like me and born in an era where furniture was still made to last, you'll often see pieces like this. Now, while this isn't a high-quality find, but it's made in the likeness of a solid, vintage French Provincial nightstand.

Why isn't it as nice as these French Provincial pieces I've redone in the past?
Those projects are all solid wood. However, this one has a laminate top and molded plastic drawer fronts with pressed wood drawer sides. So, that means I can have my way with this... mwahahaha.
MAKEOVER TIME
First, since I need to work with laminate and plastic, I need to prep the surface to paint (because, yes... paint). That means, I use my orbital sander and 150-grit paper to give the top tooth.

Then, I take my Zinsser BIN primer and prep the rest of it this way.

You can see how I've used this amazing primer on
all these past projects HERE. Only one coat is needed, thankfully, and then I move on.
Next, I mix up my own paint for the exterior - I'm feeling pink! Just a soft pink, however.

Meanwhile, I mix up a second color in a sort of lavender color for the interior of the drawers. More fun!

What is more, after two coats letting cure in between, I use my gold paint to give a wash to the entire exterior. That way, it will be perfectly matched with the pulls I paint a soft gold. For this technique, I brush on the paint with damp rag in hand to wipe it off ever so slightly.
GILDED GAL
Finally, here is my vintage French Provincial nightstand in a new color and ready for many more years to come.

This pink is just the right shade for femininity, and the gilding is just blingy enough. A girl's gotta have some bling!

Likewise, for bit of peek-a-boo fun, I have these roses peeking out on each drawer.

Moreover, I'm just as happy as a lark that this piece is singing a new song with vivaciousness! I've done pink makeovers in the past and have always loved to work on a "different" vibe from time to time. This one makes my heart smile.

Maybe the next time you see one of these French Provincial pieces you'll consider giving it a color pop too. Additionally, if you'd like to make this part of your home story, you can find it and more in
my online store.
