What's better than finding junk and reworking it? Finding junk and reworking it with friends!! Folks, it's the second Tuesday of the month and that means it's Trash to Treasure time. I'm joining my four blogger friends to bring you new inspiration. You'll see their work in a bit but take a peek at what followed me home. This vintage cubby shelf needs a new look to bring it up-to-date and refresh it. Vintage Cubby Shelf Before Trash to Treasure Makeover | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces When I say it followed me home, I mean that I went into the store not intending to purchase something like this but couldn't resist the call to give it new life. This vintage cubby shelf is made of pine, so at least it has solid wood going for it. Also, it has two cubbies with door, one without, plus a plate rack with cup hooks below. It's kinda stinky, so I lay it out in the sun for a few hours and that kills it completely. Sunning Vintage Cubby Shelf to Remove Odor | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces BTW...it still freaks me out when I see my shadow as I still can't believe I have curly hair. eep!(see my hair post HERE) Okay, back to my project. First, as you can see, I had to use a ton of wood filler to fill in the nailer holes and various grain issues (common to pine). Wood Filler on Vintage Cubby Shelf | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces

LET'S PAINT

Then, once I sand that all down, I'm ready for the next step...paint. Next, I take the shelf outside and use a basic white paint to give the cup hooks a refreshing from that awful faux brass. Next, I use this Rustic Pink spray paint I've used in the past HERE to fill in the cubby boxes. Painted Inside Vintage Cubby Shelf | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces Yes, this is the first coat of two, so hang with me. Last, as soon as the spray paint layers cure, I begin to use the same Slate Green I use on my kitchen cabinets to paint the rest of the shelf by brush. Perfect! The colours are so pretty! I think the curvy side supports suit the cottage vibe so well Larissa!

Hooray!! I'm such a sucker for that green. Even did my home trim in that color to change it up from boring white. Thanks so much, Kim!

Thank you on both accounts, Rebecca. I wish I didn't have a story to share, but am glad I can hopefully help someone else on the same path. Many hugs to you!

Love the color but then that peek-a-boo color when you open the doors brings it up a level. Super adorable my friend. XOXO
