Okay...let's just get this outta the way. Indeed, there is something weird about the era of country blue and HEARTS!! There...I said it. I have nothing against blue. As a matter of fact, blue is actually one of my favorite colors. As for the hearts, nothing against those either. But... (you always have to have one of those, right?) However, the two paired together for an entire decade makes one wane on their decorative sense. Further, take this vintage country shelf, for instance. Need I say more? For historical reference, here's what I've done with heart cut-outs in the past. SEE HERE. Sometimes I embrace them and other times they gotta go. Today, I'm all about remediation. Let's go!

MORE BANG FOR MY BUCK

If you happen to run into a heart cut-out situation like this in your own decor or in a hand-me-down store, don't worry. There is hope! First, I remove the bottom peg slat by doing a little hammering. To start with I drill the back of this piece with my forstner bit to be able to pop out the pegs from behind. It worked beautifully. Yay! Additionally, notice the piece of wood also laying on the table. That is my replacement piece coming soon. Then, I glue then in and nail the entire set into the existing spot on my vintage country shelf. Although I could go with any color, this time around I'm going with a semi-gloss black. Not only is it easy to clean, but also has a modern vibe, and is durable. Yes and no. Yes, because it presents a whole new vibe, but not really a huge difference. However, I could've flipped the shelf upright and left the pegs off. In addition, I also could have taken it all apart and built something completely new since it's wood. I’m glad you got some rest and are on the mend Larissa. It may not be a big makeover but I think it is so much better. It doesn’t look as blocky/chunky in black (black is sliming as we know) haha. Have a blessed weekend.

Much better and elegant. The copper against the black is beautiful. I would have passed this piece up because of the hearts.

Seriously one of your bests!! That looks absolutely fabulous and would go with nearly every decor! Very well done. If I had a good spot for it I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat! How cute will it be to decorate it seasonally, too. Bravo!!!

Such a surprise transformation. I thought I was going to know what to expect but it turned out so much better than I expected. I should have known it would. It’s a Prodigal Piece. It’s very sharp.
