Admittedly, I have such a soft heart for (1) not filling up our landfill and encouraging others to stop being a wasteful society (2) making use of what others call trash. Each spring our city does a spring clean-up where folks do unload legit trash, but also things that shouldn't be landfill material. During our quadrant cleanup, my neighbor set this vintage baby crib in their loot...er...trash. I couldn't just leave it there, right? I actually drove around grabbing things to save and posted them in a local ministry. All were taken and picked up by those who needed them. Win-win!Vintage Baby Crib Before Makeover by Larissa of Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces It's so sweet and has most everything there, just not the springs and a few bits. However, I still see the rest as perfect for an upcycle. Don't you? You can see how I yanked five crib sets off the curb one year over HERE. After cleaning it up with some soap and a good scrubbing, I decided to create two projects from the ends.

DRESSING UP

First, I sand off the floral decal and paint the foot-board and soft blue milk paint. I'm loving this color already. tee hee! Vintage Baby Crib Painted White Frame | prodigalpieces.com Before I move onto the next part, I grab some scrap trim and frame the chalkboard-like center. After that, I use two transfers from The Graphics Fairy, my friend, Karen, to make two different signs using my transfer method. I cut corner trim on my miter saw to frame it up. Then, I cut a scrap piece of beadboard to fill it in and attach it in with my point driver.

TWO REVEALS

First, here's the foot-board all ready to go as a French floral shop sign. Notice I add a bit of chain from my chandelier in my family room. I think it fits perfectly, don't you? Because it's beadboard against my paneling, it's kinda hard to see, but it makes a nice statement. Both are fun, however, I am curious which one floats your French boat? And, before I forget, I did donate the crib rails to a local ministry. Not only are they great to use as garden trellis, they can also serve as a drying rack.
