Another month just flew by and it's the second Tuesday of the month which means it's
Trash to Treasure Transformation time! {{excited clapping}}. This means my four blogger friends and I get together to create projects to inspire you. This time around I'm showing you this antique wash stand. Isn't it sweet?

Yes, it does need love, but who doesn't these days? I'm thankful for a sweet friend, Bessica, who thought enough of me to bring this for me to love on. In addition, this isn't the first wash stand I've worked on. You can see
this one HERE or this other
one HERE. Let's take a look...

The top veneer is damaged as well as the sides and a bit on the doors. Not a problem.

The interior bottom panel needs some TLC as well.

Thankfully, I have the wherewithal (or just plain nutty ideas) to tackle something like this. Ready?
DIY TIME
First order of business is take care of all that veneer. If you've been around me long, you know that
veneer can be
my friend or
my enemy depending on the piece. haha. In this case, I'm going to see how hard it will be to mess with this veneer. The view of underneath looks kinda promising, but I'm not counting my chicks just yet. However, when I started to remove it, you would think I struck gold when I showed my littles. They have a treasure chest full of coins they've found counting them as God's blessings. I let them add these to their loot. Look close!

After pulling most of it off and chipping away too, I decide the top is too far gone to restore due to bowing in the boards. No worries though because I have a plan. Next, I also remove the inside layer because that too needs replacing.

Likewise, I also see to it to replace the missing casters. Thankfully, I have a stash to draw from thanks to an
awesome do-gooder.

Then, I trace the top onto luan I have in my stash from our bedroom remodel. Notice the bottom is replaced and casters are in as well. woot! Also, I fill in all the damage with wood filler. Almost there!

NEXT STEPS
As soon as I trace the top, I use my jigsaw to cut it out. After that, I apply wood glue and use my brad nailer to secure it to the original top. To make it cohesive, I use my
reactive stain on the top and in the interior shelf.

While the stain does its job, I begin tackling the base and interior. My custom-mixed color pink is suiting my vision for this antique wash stand.

While the top is new, it doesn't quite gel with the rest even after staining, so I decide to replicate the original top peeking through. In order to do that, I use a base color of another custom color similar to beige. On top, I break out my wood graining tools to add a planking look. You can see a demo in the video below of
my kids play table makeover.

Finally, I just need to dress up the knobs. Funny thing is that originally the drawer had swag pulls at some point, but the holes were filled in with dowel plugs. I considered replacing them with some antique swag pulls I have in my stash. However, I felt that painting and decoupaging is much more suited to my end vision.

I simply use my
decorative tissue paper and a mixture of glue and water like I did for this
curio cabinet. Then, I sand to age them a bit.
THE REVEAL
After a bit more DIY fun, here's my pretty in pink antique wash stand ready to go many more years.

For me, the pink just suits it with those ornate details and rose knobs. It's a custom color I mixed up for another project, so I'm glad I hung onto it. Likewise, I'm smitten with the outcome of the top as well. It's much better than the damaged veneer right?

Oh, and another surprise is the inside. tee hee!

You know I had to do blue, but what color would you have chosen for the inside?

If you'd like to make this stand a part of your home, you can find it and more available in
my online shop. Come take a peek!
