While maybe at times I pass up on cast-offs that cross my path, the one thing I can assuredly say I can't resist is wood. The wood can be old, worn, beaten down, and even just like these two broken tiered stands, just needing new life.  They are my dynamic duo about to get a brand new life as an upcycled wall clock. Woot! Vintage Broken Tiered Stands Before Makeover by Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com You may be wondering how I came upon such beauty. Well, the story goes that I was feverishly trying to wrap up our kitchen remodel reveal when I got an offer to check out some freebies.

CURB LE CHIC

I snagged these two gems because they are, I believe, mahogany wood and that alone is a winner. Apparently, they once were a tiered serving stand with a possible glass top. I felt it fair game to turn them each one of them into a upcycled wall clock since the top was missing. Am I right? Original Label on Vintage Tiered Stand | prodigalpieces.com My first order of business was to remove the center pedestal. Those parts are being reserved for a later purpose (no throwing away good parts here!) Then, my sander came out to play for one of wood rounds. I took off the finish and sanded out the gouges. I wasn't going for raw, but rustic. Wood Rounds Before Repurposed Wall Clocks | prodigalpieces.com Next, I applied a light coat of white wax to seal it as well as add texture and dimension. I brushed with the grain and buffed until I liked what I saw. Applying White Wax to Repurposed Wall Clock | prodigalpieces.com Once that wax was ready, I added a clock face by recreating the free clock faces HERE and adding a bit of text of my own. You can also see how I used those faces on my clock face table. I then used my transfer method to get the text on the wood round and painted it in my hand.

SECOND TIME AROUND

While that clock was curing, I began work on the second one. First, I filled in the holes with wood filler and then sanded it smooth. For this repurposed wall clock, I wanted to do a fun color with a rustic feel. I had some red milk paint left over from my antique desk makeover (a must see). I mixed up a batch and applied two coats of paint. Red Milk Paint for Repurposed Wall Clock | Farmhouse Style | prodigalpeices.com After letting the two coats cure, I added another clock face with hand-painted details as well. Are you ready to see my dynamic duo ready for their new life? I am!! First, I'll show you the one I sanded down. I went with a modern farmhouse feel with a simple, fresh feel. I like both, but the red clock reaches out to me the most. Maybe it's the combination of the red and cream. What a great imagination you have ,I probably would have tried to make them in their original state. Enjoy all your projects.

Such a great idea! Personally, I like the red one better - probably because it would go with my kitchen! Love trash to treasure finds!
