Many of you, like me, love the hunt. The hunt for just the right find that makes our eyes light up. Maybe it doesn't always look exactly how we want it when found, but potential is a wonderful word. Thrifting, junking,
trashure hunting is so absolutely thrilling when you can haul home someone else's "junk" that you know is a treasure...or at least can be. Right? I was finished shopping when I spied this tucked in behind a bunch of other frames. I feel an upcycled ornate frame project coming on. woot!

If this is made of wood, I'd have passed out. However, it's actually resin and has a funky paperboard art insert. Like most art like this, the art is bowed in the middle from age, and also has those awesome brown spots speckling it. Notice the paperboard art has an extra backing and is held in with metal clips. Its got to go!
DIY TIME
First, I pop off those pieces with a screw driver and clean up the frame. In case you're wondering, check out this video below that I did with another awesome frame with funky mirror art.

So you see, these funky ornate frames are sure fun to make into our own decor with a little DIY elbow grease. However, this one is going to get a different look and function. Once I have the art removed and the frame clean, I add a base color that is the tan/beige family.

Then, once that cures, I use a white wax to highlight and accent those fun faux carvings. See them popping to life?

Next, I use a hint of dark gray wax here and there with an artists brush to add a bit more depth. Now my frame is ready for the next steps.
MORE DIY FUN
Instead of replacing the art with some other panel, I feel like having fun with this using some natural elements. This small grapevine wreath gets wrapped in moss using my hot glue gun.

Then, I also add a bow made of fabric strips cut from excess fabric in my stash. A gal always has to have a stash, am I right?
THE REVEAL
Last, but not least, here is my upcycled ornate frame ready for refreshing new lease on life. Ta da!

Whatcha think? I certainly love the new look MUCH MORE than that faux gold. Yes, the frame is still resin, but it doesn't look like it any more. {{fist pump!!}}
