With cabin fever being real at this time of year, it's good to get out a bit and break the monotony. Not only do I still go on walks and runs, but a run to the thrift store was needed this time. While looking for what my I need, I come across this thrifted box. It's obviously a modern make but has potential even though it has damage.

Let's say you're wanting some stylish storage and you either already own something like this or have a happy find like I did. You can change this up completely to suit your own home story.
MAKEOVER TIME
First, let's take a closer look, up close and personal.

It's sturdy and has sweet hardware, right? However, the front latch is missing the pull, and the vinyl seams are lifting.

Then, there's the inside that reminds me of a magician's box or something weird like that.
All in all, not too bad, me thinks.
Here's some past box makeover that show what can come of my DIY adventures:

For starters, I glue down the seams and let rest overnight. Next, I remove all the hardware (which is held on by screws - hallelujah it's not attached another way!! A fellow DIYer will understand)
PAINT AND LAYERING
Once I have the hardware off, I take
my slate green (yes, again) to brighten up that interior.

And then for the exterior, I use this nutmeg that's a fast favorite of mine from these past posts (
Queen Anne tables,
vintage Kroehler buffet, and
these thrifted candlesticks and many more)

Two coats of nutmeg, and then I break out a creamy white for a sort of wash. I wipe on the paint and then use a misting bottle and damp rag to wipe off excess.

At this point, I'm liking where I'm at as I totally want understated and simple.
However, there's still the issue of that latch. Nothing that an old wire hanger and my pliers can't fix!
STORAGE AND STYLE
Last, here's my thrifted storage box revamped for a new look and still plenty of function. woot!

I'm stoked that the hardware pops and the wash tones down the style to a softer look. My hanger fix did the trick in one cut and a few bends {{fist pump}}

When it unlatches, you can feel the sigh of relief this box gives.

Here's to finding a promising piece that just needed some TLC and change. Would you have snagged it up in its original condition?
If you'd like, you can now find this storage box and more in
my online store.
