Isn't there a phrase that states, "All good things come in threes?" I don't think I put much stock in that, but I will say that when my friend offered me these thrifted kitchen canisters, I knew it was a good thing that I should eagerly accept. I mean, who can't use more storage, especially in the kitchen, right?

They definitely have a vintage vibe, definitely have wear, and definitely have potential. At first glance, they look to have been painted by a previous owner. Also, the bottom has the original label, "Good Wood, Made in Taiwan".

However, if you look close, the only wooden part of this set is the top knob. haha. The rest is made of pressed board with faux wood veneer. At any rate, I search to know the depth of this brand and found they were primarily popular in the Mid Century, and are making a comeback for those with a vintage vibe.
This time around, I want to change up their style a bit to show you how you can change what you have (or find or inherit) to suit your own home story. You can see another
Pinterest fail set I found made over and even got featured in a magazine. woot!
DIY TIME
First things first. The canisters are pretty dirty with splashes of coffee on the outside, and coffee grinds on the inside. I give a good soaking to the plastic liners, wipe down the rest with rubbing alcohol. However, the stains penetrated the white paint, so there's only one thing to do.

Bring on the paint! Before I begin, I decide to dig into my stash and replace those round knobs with something a little different. Then, I pull out 3 different colors of paints in a sort of ombre style.

Next, for the lids, I want to add contrast and interest. So, copper it is! I love copper for many reasons and have used it in
other past posts HERE.

Last, but definitely not least, I add typography and an aged appeal with waxes and distressing. Gotta love sanding a fresh coat of paint! haha. My kids always wonder the why...
THE REVEAL
Here's my thrifted canister set all made new...er...old. tee hee!

I'm smitten with the outcome of these. The ombre style paint gave each of them their own personality, and the typography gives it charm. Do you love it?

Now, I'm curious...what would you have done to change them up? I went with an aged copper look for the lids using
my tutorial found HERE. So fun!

Also, if you'd like to make this set your own, you can purchase it along with other goodies in
my online store.

In addition, pin and share my thrifted kitchen canisters. I'm sure there are more sets just waiting for revival.
