Isn't there a phrase that states, "All good things come in threes?" I don't think I put much stock in that, but I will say that when my friend offered me these thrifted kitchen canisters, I knew it was a good thing that I should eagerly accept. I mean, who can't use more storage, especially in the kitchen, right? Kitchen Canisters Before Mini Makeover | prodigalpieces.com They definitely have a vintage vibe, definitely have wear, and definitely have potential. At first glance, they look to have been painted by a previous owner. Also, the bottom has the original label, "Good Wood, Made in Taiwan". Good Wood Canister Bottom ~ Thrifted Kitchen Canisters | prodigalpieces.com However, if you look close, the only wooden part of this set is the top knob. haha. The rest is made of pressed board with faux wood veneer. At any rate, I search to know the depth of this brand and found they were primarily popular in the Mid Century, and are making a comeback for those with a vintage vibe. This time around, I want to change up their style a bit to show you how you can change what you have (or find or inherit) to suit your own home story. You can see another Pinterest fail set I found made over and even got featured in a magazine. woot!

DIY TIME

First things first. The canisters are pretty dirty with splashes of coffee on the outside, and coffee grinds on the inside. I give a good soaking to the plastic liners, wipe down the rest with rubbing alcohol. However, the stains penetrated the white paint, so there's only one thing to do. Dirty Thrifed Kitchen Canisters | prodigalpieces.com Bring on the paint! Before I begin, I decide to dig into my stash and replace those round knobs with something a little different. Then, I pull out 3 different colors of paints in a sort of ombre style. I love copper for many reasons and have used it in other past posts HERE. Painting Kitchen Canister Lids with Metallic Paint | prodigalpieces.com Last, but definitely not least, I add typography and an aged appeal with waxes and distressing. Gotta love sanding a fresh coat of paint! haha. My kids always wonder the why...

The canisters are amazing. I always loved your prior canister makeover too. The round ones you put in the link highlighted in Pinterest. I kick myself for not buying that set before some other lucky person got them. You are so creative. I really believe that what you do is inspiring. Thanks!!

How sweet of you to say, Joanne. Especially when lately, I'm struggling with being creative as I'm facing many hurdles in my life. Thank you for the smile and word of encouragement.
