Have you had any great thrifting or garage sale adventures lately? You know, the kind where you come home excited to share your finds with anyone who will listen. I, honestly, haven't been shopping much as of late and sorta miss that buzz feeling. It's been a sweet summer of sports and outdoor time, so I'm happy with that "buzz". However, the other day I went out to look for some play clothes for my youngest and found this thrifted frame that caught my attention.
While the painting is unique because the artist used velour instead of canvas, it's got a bit of damage and is not my taste, per se. The frame, though, is something I'd like to make use of to suit my home and style. There's always a way to make your own home story on a budget. Many of you ask me how to do that, so let's start with wall art.
TEAR APART
The first order of business is to remove that painting by taking out the staples in the back. I do believe this was done by a street vendor in Mexico, much like a bowl

Then, as soon as I have the art out, I remove the fabric from the lighter wooden frame so I can reuse it. Recently, one of my feed sack pillows met the fate of my dog as she tore a hole in the cover and the feather pillow. sigh...
I didn't want to toss the feed sack, so I saved it for a project such as this. Next, I use my seam ripper to open up the pillowcase I made and lay it flat. On top of that, I place the wooden frame to line it up.
In order to attach the sack, I use my stapler beginning on one side, then moving to opposite side, and so on. My goal is to make it taut but centered as well. After that, I set it aside and paint the original thrifted frame in a rustic red.
Finally, I simply put the feed sack frame back into the red frame and staple it in as it had been when I found it.
FEED SACK LOVE

Here's that same thrifted frame with a new "old" vibe.
Isn't it fun? The frame still has the rustic vibe with a touch of red paint and brown wax to keep the aged appeal while hiding the wear it had. In addition, the feed sack is preserved for many more years. I'm excited to say my sunflowers are also in full bloom. It makes me happy and sad at the same time because their presence means summer is quickly passing by.
