Some days you find a treasure that you know exactly what you want to do with it. Then...there are days like this. What in the world is this wooden thingy? Many have put ideas out for toilet paper holder, jewelry holder, etc. Let me know if you legit know as I'm so curious! However, despite the original purpose, I'm going to transform it into a DIY rope vase centerpiece. Hang with me now...

If you look closely, you see two dowels tied together with a smaller dowel. Then, the base has a routed edge (like for a hurricane vase for candle? but the dowel is in the way) with a routed-out spot (again, maybe for a candle or a vase?)

With that, I'm ready to take it and make it into something new.
REPURPOSING
First, I take out the dowel rack by removing the screws from the base.

After that, I take the longer dowels (saving the small one for a later purpose) and cut them into equal parts using my miter saw, and then sand to round one end.

Next, in order for my dowel pieces to fit into the existing base, I use my forstner bit and make matching holes around that inlaid circle. You can see that the original two dowels resting in their holes, while the others are freestanding.

As soon as that is done, I use my drill to make doles in the centers for screws.
FINISHING
Last, but not least, I use my spray paint to give it a few coats of this flat white paint to make it all cohesive.

Finally, as soon as the paint cures, I use my dollar store rope to wind around the dowel anchoring it with hot glue.

In addition, for surface protection, I yanked off these rubber feet from a VHS tape holder someone threw out in the trash and add them to my centerpiece.
LET IT BLOOM
Are you ready to see what I created with that wooden thingy? Check out my DIY rope vase centerpiece filled with blooms from my own gardens.

Resting below my
DIY light fixture using an antique clamp, I am happy to share this little creation o' mine.

Inside the centerpiece is a glass vase also from a thrift store. Even better, the stand makes for perfect decoration through any season, right? First, fill it for spring/summer with fresh flowers, or fill it with twigs and leafy branches for fall, and fresh greens in winter.

Now it's your turn...tell me what you would have done with this original find? I'd love to hear!

Likewise, if you want to add this to your decor, you can find it and more in
my online store.
SHARE
In addition to leaving some comment love below, do pin and share my creation to inspire others to see past the "junk" to find the
trashure.
