Whew! It feels good to be back in the DIY saddle after a VERY long week of trials. I didn't know if I could get this done, though simple as it is. Never fear...the trashure gal is here! In my last post about my living room remodel, I promised to show you what I'd do with this thrifted cheese box. It's a cutie and I have a thing for strawberries as a June baby. Thrifted Box Before | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces However, let's say you see this box at the store and strawberries aren't your jam (pun intended). Don't pass it up because the painting isn't finished or isn't your style. Instead, let's take a peek at what it could be. Hand-Painted Strawberries on Thrifted Cheese Box | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces If you know me, I'm typically a rustic, cottage, farmhouse style kinda gal. With that, I'm going to say buh-bye to this painting and give it my own touch. You can even see this other cheese box I did recently over HERE. Are you ready?

CHANGIN' IT UP

First, the strawberry painting is slightly textured, and I don't want that to show through to my final result. In order to do that, I use CitriStrip paint stripper (1) brush it on (2) cover it in plastic wrap for a couple hours (3) scrape off the softened paint. Applying Paint Stripper to Cheese Box Lid | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces Covering Lid in Plastic Wrap | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces To finish the removal, I wipe it down with denatured alcohol to remove any residue. Now, because the rim is metal and the center is wood, the paint doesn't come all the way off the wood. However, that's fine with me. I just want rid of the raised berries. Next, I use my flat black spray paint to coat the wooden surfaces, making sure the metal is taped off. Well, I take a different paint that I can brush on and follow that with the tool. LAST BITS

Last, but not least, you know I had to add some sort of designs with typography. Using my transfer technique, I create a graphic in a clock-face shape. That gives the box even more age and dimension. Inside, I simple brushed the paint in whitewash fashion for a textured look. Sweet Larissa, this has been such a tough year for you. My prayers are with you. Hang tough. God will see you through. As far as the electronics, you just have to laugh when you get through screaming (on the inside, of course!). Besides, those things happen in three’s and I think you’ve definitely hit that mark! Thank you for bringing joy and laughter to all of us!

Honestly, Gayle, this is the norm for me most of the time. I've just surmised that Satan only attacks those in God's care, so I must be doing something right. ;) Thank you so much for the smile! :D

Yes, been a hot mess and it sounds like you too. I'm so glad you're on the other side and I hope you find relief soon. Just know it takes oodles of time to get past that, but it sure is possible. The tech stuff is part of my daily grind, but the other hot mess stuff I want to put behind me. I'm trying to keep my eyes on Him. Feel better soon!
