Nothing sparks more inspiration than a boring wood trivet, right? Yeah...and I'm sure you think I just checked out of the funny farm. Well, you're in for a treat as I wow you with my amazing upcycling skills for this repurposed trivet project! {{triumphal music plays}} Thrifted Trivet Before Makeover | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces When I spy this at the thrift store, I am taken by the blonde wood. It's sleek, stylish, and serves a purpose. That checks off all the tipping points for me. However, storing something this size can be difficult for some. So, why not give it a higher purpose...literally.

DIY TIME

First, I need to make this my own, so I do away with that signature label on the corner with wood filler. Applying Wood Filler to Trivet Logo | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces Meanwhile, I flip the trivet over to add keyhole hardware. Keyhole Hardware for Hanging Repurposed Trivet | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces This hardware is a great way to mount a light or heavy item to a wall with a flush finish. Just make sure you attach them in a level fashion. Also, notice I left the rubber feet on the bottom. You'll see why in a bit. Mounted Keyhole Hardware on Repurposed Trivet by Larissa of Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces After adding hardware and the filler cures, I sand it down I decide to add a bit of color to a few of the slats. Yes, I am an avid lover of all things blue (or green or...) Painting Trivet Slats | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces I'm aiming to liven up this trivet enough to use it in decor, but also leave a nod to the wood as well.

NEXT STEPS

Next, there's one more piece to this repurposed trivet puzzle. I've dressed it up, added hardware, but now it's time to add even more function. For that, I dig into my luan scrap pieces and cut two of each size. Then, I glue them together and let that cure. Gluing Luan Pieces for Repurposed Trivet Decor | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces Once they cure, I use my clothing iron and this veneer edging to make them into a finished unified piece of wood. You can see how I've used this edging on these past projects HERE. Iron-On Veneer Edging for Repurposed Trivet by Larissa of Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com Just iron on and trim. Then, sand it down to your liking. Isn't that easy? Finally, to finish it off, I apply a few coats of poly to the trivet and the new pieces I've created.

What a clever repurpose, Larissa! I love it as a modern wall shelf but adore how it can still be used as a trivet with bonus coasters. Pinned
