Another month has flown by and it's time (pun intended) for
Trash to Treasure Tuesday! If you're new here, this is the second Tuesday of the month four bloggers and I collaborate to bring you brand new inspiration. While you'll see their work in a bit, check out my pick for this go-round. I feel a repurposed clock in the works! (yes, pun intended again... tee hee)
Aside from the clock that I'm not sure if it works, the base door is missing the insert but overall is ready for a new life, don't you think? I'm always a sucker for clocks as you can see in
these past posts. This time, however, I am ready to take that one out.
NEW LOOK
At first glance, you wouldn't have seen this bit up on top. First, I pop that off and then look to the clock section.
The clock face itself is inset into two groves in the top door. In order to repurpose this, I need to remove the clockworks and I set that aside. Next, I pry out the staples to remove the clock face.
At the same time, I remove the glass, the magnet latches and catches, as well as the knobs. That way, I have a skeleton to work with.
STASH
If you're a DIYer, you know how important it is to have a stash. It could be a fabric stash, craft stash, junk stash, and in this case, a wood stash. I have plenty of luan (a thin plywood
used HERE). Once I measure the bottom door and the back, I cut two pieces to fill those spots.
In order to get the look I'm after, I use a dark gray second's paint to give to coats to the cabinet.
Meanwhile, I take the blank door panel and apply a design using my stencil and spackling.

What is more, I take that glass panel and begin to do reverse painting.
What's that, you say? I want an image to show to the outside but is painted in reverse on the backside. In addition, I want to make it a mirror.

TIME TO SEE
These processes are always fun, and I like to make twists and turns in my work depending on where the project takes me. This repurposed clock cabinet now showcases a time-worn vibe complete with typography and plenty of storage.
Not only does the top cabinet sport a new look, but also the bottom with the embossed copper panel. Likewise, did you notice I found two vintage brass knobs in my stash to replace the clunky wooden ones (which are also saved for a higher purpose).
As for the inside, I topped that back panel with my punched tin wallpaper and gave it the same effect as the bottom door panel.
Isn't that just fun? I like to think so - woot!
