Sometimes, you just need to change things up, right? Maybe it's your wardrobe, your hair, your bedding, or your underwear (bwahaha!!). It feels good, gives you a new take on your perspective, and gives you a boost. I've been wanting to redo our bathroom for quite some time and finally got a chance to do it. I'm not looking to overhaul it like we did in
this remodel post, but rather change it up with a blush bathroom makeover. Yes, blush... as in coral, as in pink. tee hee!
This original gray suited my fancy for many years. I still like it as it's refreshing and light, however, I've had my eye on a color. When we moved in, I painted the tile a purple, then a green. After the remodel I kept it simple for resell purposes, but that wasn't meant to happen (
read more HERE). Now, it's back to the colorful room.
BUH-BYE GRAY
As you can imagine, going from gray to a pink is quite dramatic. Just what I wanted! What's pushing my desire is for a happier vibe that lends a nod to a sort of cottage style, Victorian, or just plain ol' vintage vibin'. It's not like I haven't used this color in the rest of my home either, albeit in more subtle ways. My tufted sofa and armchair in
my living room are coral and the biggest inspiration in this choice. In addition, I use coral accents in
my family room and in
my dining area. What is more, my blog and shop are coral and aqua. nuff said.
As you can see in the first picture as well as in these two below, there is normal wear and tear on this small space for our family of eight. Additionally, I've removed everything on the walls and light so that I have ease of use of space. I begin by washing the walls and filling in/sanding any spots where previous decor hung. I want a complete blank slate.
MIXIN' IT UP
True to my DIY adventures, I love to mix my own paint. I've done it for my home exterior color,
my garage door, and countless other projects as well. When I redid
this antique tilt table, I used a second paint I found. Little did I know it was the top paint color choice by Benjamin Moore for 2023 called Raspberry Blush. I loved it so much that I bought all the seconds cans they had. However, the color is so powerful that I thought it might be a bit too much for my small... er... tiny space.
With that in mind, I use a white to mix my own color in a lighter shade.
Here's what I end up with... perfect.
First, I cut in with my brush to hit all the areas that are hard to reach with a roller. Then, the therapy begins.
Truth be told, I'm a teenie bit nervous while at the same time elated to see my gray days turn brighter. I have no problem painting as it's in my blood and I've been working on home since my paint crew days I rocked in college.
BLUSHINGLY BEAUTIFUL
Finally, here's my blush bathroom makeover complete. woot!
I'm skip-happy with the outcome, and YES... my kids love it. Who can deny the instant skin glow you get when you walk in. It's like you're blushing! Oh, and did you recognize my shelf? Yep, it's
my antique treadle sewing machine turned folding shelf.
I've not only got that blush coral color, but also the dark woods, the light woods, and even
my hollow core doors made to look like washed panels. What is more, if you look closely, you'll see that
ornate antique brass frame I recently upcycled as well.
Meanwhile, on the other wall are a couple of prints from my previous bathroom, plus a few others I've accumulated over the years. They all have similar color roses and the dark contrast I am after.
As I wrap this up, I just want to encourage you to not be afraid to go bold in your own home... it's
your home. I lived in this house so long without making it my own, but in the last few years I've made it speak my story.
