I suppose it's well-known that I don't like to get rid of things that can certainly be used for another or higher purpose. Take this door, for instance. It came off a gun cabinet that I repurposed into a quilt cabinet, and it went viral (see HERE). If you look in that post, you'll see the bottom opening is originally covered by this door. However, in my upcycle I decide to leave it off for better use of storage. It's been a few years since that makeover, and now it's time to create a reclaimed store sign with it. Let's go! Reclaimed Cupboard Door Before | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces Additionally, if you know me, you know wood always has a purpose. So, I also save my sponge brush handles after I use the brush for stain or paint. Sponge Brush Dowel Handle Before Repurposed into Reclaimed Store Sign | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces You can see how I've used these handles in storage in my workshop HERE. They are just dowel, after all, right?

BUILD IT

First order of business, I need to fill in the original handle holes as well as remove the broken hinge and clean it all up. Wood Filler for Cabinet Door Holes | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces After letting the wood filler cure, I sand it down and then cut the dowel on a 10° angle on my miter saw. Cutting Dowel Angle for Reclaimed Store Sign | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces That angle will allow the dowel to sit at just the slightest tip so the items hanging don't slide off. Then, once the dowel is cut, I use my forstner bit to make the holes the dowel will rest in. Drilling Dowel Hanger Holes with Forstner Bit | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces Next, I glue in the dowl and let cure until it's time to paint. And... blue it is!
