Isn't it amazing that every day we have a fresh start? Yes, our past choices and decisions affect our future in many ways. However, not just at a new year or some other day we elevate, but every day we are blessed to open our eyes, we have a choice. That's similar to how I choose to see the random bits and baubles I find or come into my possession. I can choose to see them as broken down or "trash" not fit for anything or as potential for more. Some see these below as junk, but I am ready to create something new. How about some reclaimed barrel ring art?
I couldn't turn these items down. I mean, by simply looking at them you can see there is a story in the tooling hammer as well as the rusty barrel ring. Let's make it have more of a story, shall we?
DIY TIME
First, to get started, I want to dive in to my stash of old wood. A gal has to have a stash to create with, especially the chippy kind. I had this piece of tongue and groove siding leftover from past projects.
Also, in recent days I made these
three candles sconces from tin scraps, candle base plates, and wooden knobs for
my online shop.
If you recall, I had a whiskey barrel ring that I did something similar in
this past post. Additionally, I created totes from
whiskey barrel parts as well. I tell ya, reclaimed creating is fun! To get started and in order to make the wood fit the tapered design of the ring, I need to set my jigsaw plate at an angle. Such a handy tool, if you don't have one already.
Then, once the wood is cut, I attach using self-drilling metal screws.
THE REVEAL
Finally, after attaching the hammer and doing some hand-painting, my reclaimed barrel ring art is ready for a new lease on life.
With oodles of patina and a story to tell, this sign has my heart. In addition, even down to the hand-embossed roman number IX on the tooling hammer.
Also, can you guess what the tool is above? It's great to have one of these on hand. Ya never know when you'll need it.
