Are you ready for this? DISCLAIMER: This post contains potty talk. If you have ever had a child, you know what I'm talking about. Just wanted to be upfront and everyone is on the same page. hee hee hee. Now, doesn't every good mother scout the curb when they are walking their kids home? I mean, who would pass up the opportunity to carry
this home? Yep, that's a potty chair and we gonna have a potty chair makeover today, folks.

What kid wouldn't love this little gem with the built-in TP holder and book rack? It's like a little throne or something. I actually spied this this night before on an evening walk with my kids. We had to walk back that way the next day to go to our homeschool gym class and figured if it was still there I would grab it before the trash truck did.
The owner was sitting outside and we are acquainted, so I asked if I could have it. She told me it just needed cleaned up. This is when my inner voice asks, "Then why set it out for the trash?" Ah well... So, I lugged it home and, yes, my kids didn't mind. My toddler kept saying it would be for her when she was a baby again. Too cute.
WHATCHA THINK?
It really was in great shape. Just a bit of dirt in the bowl (that is only leaves. ahem), missing a TP holder, but solid nonetheless. Is it gross? Just a bit. The bowl had been stained with a blue cleaner, but that is a whole lot better than the alternative, RIGHT??

It's at this point that I'm like...why are you watermarking a dirty potty?? hahahaha!! Well, that bowl had to go and I found one online and had it shipped. I forgot to add the little splash guard for the boys, so will have to go back and get that too. There was a bit of a debate as to whether to turn it into a planter like this one my daughter did
in this post, but it was far too cute.
PREP WORK
Aside from buying a replacement TP holder at the local home improvement store, this potty chair makeover didn't take much. I simply added wood filler to the big chunk missing from the bottom, then sanded down brittle edges and filler with my sander.

Once all was prepped, I wiped it down with a bleach to get rid of any remaining nasties. The next step of my potty chair makeover was to update this little gem.
Being a mom, I have always been one that wanted my kids accessories to compliment my decor rather than make it look like a zoo. However, I want it to be fun for them too. I also want these type of necessities to be easy to clean. I chose an enamel paint that I have used often and done well for me. The color is yet to be named as it is one of my favorite second's paints.

It's starting to look better already, isn't it? To add a bit more fun, I used some Frog Tape to create some stripes. Also added some whimsy with one of my favorite stencils seen

THE REVEAL
After curing, this potty chair is good to go.

My littlest had fun helping me get this chair ready with some of her favorite potty training books. She's been a "Big Girl" now for almost two years, so she knows the ropes. I'm a proud mama.

She and her 5 siblings all told me their favorite part was the bird on the book holder. I must say I think I agree.

And...just in case you were wondering, the bowl is replaced and ready to go. Woot! Isn't it cute?? If I was a toddler again, I know this would make me want to take it for a test drive.

This little cutie is available in

Yes, this isn't a glorious transformation, but is definitely a trashure transformation (one man's trash is another one's treasure). To think of how many things go to the landfill makes me queasy...seriously. I hope this inspires you to give something a second look and give DIY a try.
