Are you ready for this? DISCLAIMER: This post contains potty talk. If you have ever had a child, you know what I'm talking about. Just wanted to be upfront and everyone is on the same page. hee hee hee. Now, doesn't every good mother scout the curb when they are walking their kids home? I mean, who would pass up the opportunity to carry this home? Yep, that's a potty chair and we gonna have a potty chair makeover today, folks. Vintage Potty Chair Found Curbside | Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com What kid wouldn't love this little gem with the built-in TP holder and book rack? It's like a little throne or something. I actually spied this this night before on an evening walk with my kids. We had to walk back that way the next day to go to our homeschool gym class and figured if it was still there I would grab it before the trash truck did. The owner was sitting outside and we are acquainted, so I asked if I could have it. She told me it just needed cleaned up. This is when my inner voice asks, "Then why set it out for the trash?" Ah well... So, I lugged it home and, yes, my kids didn't mind. My toddler kept saying it would be for her when she was a baby again. Too cute. Inside Curbside Potty Chair | Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com

WHATCHA THINK?

It really was in great shape. Just a bit of dirt in the bowl (that is only leaves. ahem), missing a TP holder, but solid nonetheless. Is it gross? Just a bit. The bowl had been stained with a blue cleaner, but that is a whole lot better than the alternative, RIGHT?? Stained Potty Bowl | Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com It's at this point that I'm like...why are you watermarking a dirty potty?? hahahaha!! Well, that bowl had to go and I found one online and had it shipped. I forgot to add the little splash guard for the boys, so will have to go back and get that too. There was a bit of a debate as to whether to turn it into a planter like this one my daughter did in this post, but it was far too cute. PREP WORK

Aside from buying a replacement TP holder at the local home improvement store, this potty chair makeover didn't take much. I simply added wood filler to the big chunk missing from the bottom, then sanded down brittle edges and filler with my sander. Adding Wood Putty to Repair Potty Chair | Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com Once all was prepped, I wiped it down with a bleach to get rid of any remaining nasties. The next step of my potty chair makeover was to update this little gem. Being a mom, I have always been one that wanted my kids accessories to compliment my decor rather than make it look like a zoo. However, I want it to be fun for them too. I also want these type of necessities to be easy to clean. I chose an enamel paint that I have used often and done well for me. The color is yet to be named as it is one of my favorite second's paints. Painting Wooden Potty for Potty Chair Makeover by Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com It's starting to look better already, isn't it? To add a bit more fun, I used some Frog Tape to create some stripes. Also added some whimsy with one of my favorite stencils seen HERE and HERE.

That toddler potty is absolutely adorable. So very cute. I also like the bird on the side. Also like the color of paint whatever it is.

I'm happy to hear it. :) I was laying down moldy mulch (didn't know it) and it got in my lungs with fever and all. No fun.

I tried to take a week off and then got an infection from laying down mold mulch (I didn't know it at the time). I so appreciate my lungs. cough, cough. ;)

it is adorable and I too love the bird. My father would make these for his grandchildren and later for the great grand children. So very special.

My little grandson is just starting potty training and if you lived nearby (like in the same country) I'd definitely pick this up. Such an adorable makeover! Looking at the cute bird, I can see my grandson walking into your bathroom to go potty and pointing to it while shouting LOUDLY "tweet tweet". Guess what I'm on the hunt for now?

This made me laugh out loud. About two months ago I made over an almost identical potty seat, with the same color paint, and then as I was looking at yours, we have the same bathroom floor and beadboard walls! If there is a way to post a picture let me know, you would probably get a kick out of it too. I had to show my kids! Great minds think alike!

I have the exact same chair. My children used it over 25 years ago. I am redoing it now for the grandchildren but was stuck on what to do instead of basic primary colors or stain. I am so glad I found your post. I love the color!! I also lost the book and paper holder (they're in the attic somewhere). But now I have yours to use as an example to recreate them.
