Earlier this week in my table project post, I promised to show you a furniture makeover that one of my daughters had been working on. Miss E. has never had her time in the spotlight as that is not usually her style anyway. However, I felt the need to share this project for a couple of different reasons. I'd like to show you how she gave this outdated chest nightstand a modern farmhouse chic look. Plus, inspire you to do more.

My awesome parents are always on the lookout for project piece for me or my kids. They know that each time I get a free piece that I pass it along to one of them. You can imagine how excited they get when a new one comes along. To see their past work, you can

When my mom tells me she had a small chest to work on, I decide it is Miss E's turn. She has done piece before, like this one she sold in
my shop.

She has artistic talent and loves to get creative. So you know we have fun together. This time around was no different. We started this project in early fall (hence the barefoot weather) with the intent for her to sell it. Nothing like a kid earning a savings and learning a lesson or two along the way.
DIY TIME
To get started, Miss E. knew that we had to check the drawers for any repairs needed. The only fix she found was a few of the drawer supports had come loose. Nothing that a little wood glue couldn't fix.

After that, she decided she didn't like those extra pulls on the sides, so she took them out and filled the holes with wood filler.

Once everything is dry, she uses my sander to lightly give the surfaces some tooth to accept paint. Her choice in color was this gorgeous charcoal that I have used in many instances, like
our bathroom vanity, this
recent sewing table, and
my son's buffet makeover.
You can see she has the envy of the next little girl waiting for her turn to work on a project with mama.

While the nightstand was curing, we went outside to spray paint the pulls with this Antique Nickel spray paint by RustOleum. This color would give the nightstand that modern farmhouse chic look we were after.
THE REVEAL
After all is dry and put back together, I think she did an awesome job giving this tired piece a new look.

Isn't it gorgeous? Her impressive attention to brush strokes makes me smile. And I love the pop that those pulls now give the piece.

Now, I may already be a proud mama, but the next thing that happened is the most important part. After the hurricane, Matthew, hit in North Carolina, a family that was moving to our area that had lost everything.
I gathered together what I could that would fit the family in clothing needs and added a few extras. Miss E. decided to give the family this nightstand instead of selling it in my shop to add to her savings. sniff...that's what it's all about.
TIME FLIES
This little girl is full of nothing but goodness. She loves books, animals, babies, never walks, but dances through life - literally. And...she's always wearing a smile. I am often asked by my friends while growing up...do you ever walk? ...you are always smiling! Why walk when you can dance?
So, I guess I'm sharing not only what can become of an outdated piece of furniture by giving it a modern farmhouse chic flair, but also how the little things to us can mean big things to others. ♥ What is one thing you can do today to lighten the load of someone else?
Miss E. and I would love it if you would pin and share to inspire in decor, but also in giving if even in the smallest gesture as a smile.

Up next is a fun trashure project using these frames and a funky door I found in the trash. Head
HERE to see.
