While there is no denying I truly have a heart for farmhouse mixed with Nordic, cottage, industrial, and shabby (to name a few - ha!). I also LOVE the lines of Mid Century Modern. When I spied these tables, I couldn't resist taking them home to give them an update. Have you ever owned or seen this style? They are a pair of Mid Century Modern Henredon tables that are soon to get a fresh new look. {{cue the James Bond music}}

This era is known for its architectural design. These tables followed suit with clean lines and play on a truly zest for flair. These tables are no exception. Those curvy tops paired with matching pedestal bases are sleek and stylish.

If you look close, the veneer has even a super-awesome star design. That alone drew me in to these pieces. Though, as you notice, they have much wear to the surface with scratches, dings, and dents. Not to mention that awful speckled effect they did to everything in that era.

The bases are even worse...almost blucky. Peeling and flaking paint and kinda a funky color. Time for an update, eh?
DIY TIME
Time to get my DIY on. Out comes my sander and I take off that finish easy-peasy since it was so worn. The dents had to go too.

The bases were cleaned up with a wire brush and sandpaper as well. I couldn't believe how easily it was flaking off. Next, I took an old sock and used my Briarsmoke Stain to highlight that awesome veneer design. You can see how I've used that stain before
in these posts. These Mid Century Modern Henredon tables are going to be stylin'!

Once everything was cured on top, I add two coats of a poly topcoat.
PAINTING
Since the top was a veneer, the edges were actually plywood to look at and not so pretty. To make the sides gel with the top I used my brush to give those a couple coats of paint.

I like the light color it was already. However, I had to get rid of the yellowing effect it had going on.

I used a creamy white to refresh the bases. My littlest always loves to help me when working on tables. Just her size and she works so hard.
THE REVEAL
Then, I let them cure, and we're here they are!

I am so happy with this Mid Century Modern Henredon table set. It was fun to see that style come to life and the unattractive aging gone. Oh, and if you're loving my channel back chair, you can see this transformation
in this post, and find my
DIY clock tutorial HERE.

The tops are by far my favorite feature of this set. My kids ranged from saying the design looked like a Buckeye nut, to a maple leaf, to a flower. What say you?

Additionally, pin and share these Mid Century Modern Henredon tables and their new look. You will help inspire others to give their dated pieces an updated as well. Thanks!
