Amazingly enough, we had a heat wave last week where the temps reached near 50 degrees.  Sigh.  This week is back to teens and twenties. So, how to deal with the winter blahs that are causing you to long for the beach?  Make some beach ambiance come to you by creating your own beach decor. I found this oak coffee table / entertainment stand that was in need of some superficial love and a few adjustments here and there.

DIY TIME

First, it's looking better already and it's only been sanded, don't you think?

Then, the sunbleached stain we used on our master bedroom floors (head to blog post here) got me hooked and I decided to give a beachy feel to this piece.
Last, here it is, all gussied up and ready for some waves.  It has sold from my online shop, but there is always more goodness on the way.

However, this project alone didn't quite quench the need for sand between my toes, so I took it up another level.

MORE REPURPOSING

Remember my free vintage Morris rocker?  I know several of you told me to repair it and make it come back to life, but it was badly damaged and would have taken a lot of reconstruction to get it going.  So...it was time to make use of the parts.

Not only during Christmas, did I put the springs to use, but also, it was the arms turn.

Next, with a little bit of sanding and some added dimension and hand painting, we have whimsy.

Who knew those arms turn into this? A whale of a sign, don't you think?

The whales are just too cute!! I love the beach-y feel of the upcycled stand, too. Cool rope handles! Maybe since you're on a bit of a nautical roll, the back piece of the rocker could become a beach-y towel rack of some kind? The spindles would be cool with cabinet handles on the ends, used to hold ribbon? I have no doubt you'll think up something amazing for all those parts!
