Today, I'm here to bring attention to a national campaign called, "Home is the Key" created by Habitat for Humanity to address the nation's rising affordable housing crisis. My hope is that you will help me promote awareness and even join me in helping others just like you did last year at this time.

- One in four households in the U.S. pays more than 30% of income for housing and may have difficulty affording necessities such as food or clothing.
- Virtually nowhere in the U.S. can a full-time employee earning minimum wage afford a one-bedroom apartment. Even two such jobs won't rent a two-bedroom apartment in 29 states and the District of Columbia.
- Affordable housing can improve health outcomes by freeing up family resources for nutritious food and health care expenses.*
*provided by Habitat for Humanity
Families deserve the chance to start off on the right foot in a home and have it be affordable too. Did you realize that owning a home affords you the opportunity to learn? I can speak from our own experience that we didn't know much of anything about remodeling and repairing a home. In spite of our lack of knowledge, we chose to read, learn, and practice to hone our skills. Consequently, having a home as taught us many life-application skills that we can pass on to our children.
