Having friends and family that know you're fetishes makes it a fun surprise when they bring you such treasures. My daughter found this one at her workplace for me and knew I'd love the design. She is right! It's a very large one perfect for many uses such as towels, blankets, toys...you get the idea. However, I'd like to show you how I am making it my own.DIY TIME
As you know, I love my tools, so what better time to break out some of my favorites. First, I pop up my Wagner Small Spray Shelter and set in my Turn Table with basket on top. Then, my Quick Finish Sprayer is my go-to for a project this size. HomeRight offers many sprayers for different needs from inside to out. I'm not wanting to completely cover that gorgeous basket, but rather tone it down a bit. So, I use this product mixed with a bit of paint and water to get the effect I'm after.
Before spraying, I fill up my Quick Finish and test the flow to make sure I'm ready to go. Begin by spraying off the basket and following through and continuing off. That way we get the even coverage we're after. You can watch in in my video demo below or in these past projects HERE.
Not only can you see that the wash is lightly coating the basket, but also that I'm done in less than five minutes. eep! I've brushed many a basket in my day and NOTHING beats spraying. Am I right?
NEXT STEPS
Next, before the whitewash has a chance to cure, I take a lightly dampened rag and wipe off the whitewash on parts I want to reveal the original basket. My goal is to highlight various details to make the basket have more texture and not be flat.
Then, as soon as I'm happy with the outcome, I use the Quick Connect/Release feature to take off the canister and clean up. Don't you love a quick clean-up? It definitely makes the job easier.
Before I call this harvest gift basket complete, I want to line it using a canvas-like fabric. Since each basket is unique, I'm not going to attempt to tell you how to do it exactly, but rather the general idea. First, I trace the bottom onto my fabric. Second, I measure up the side of the basket to get the highest measurement, and also around the inside perimeter widest point.
Last, assemble the side piece to the bottom and glue in with hot glue.
THE REVEAL
From dated thrifty find to harvest gift basket...yahoo! I'm smitten with the outcome and change. Plus, it's perfect for the gift-giving too.
Not only did the whitewash refresh it, but the added aging in the rubbed off whitewash gives it a time-worn vibe. Also, I cut that metal hang-tag from an old duct out of our kitchen remodel. I've tucked in a few wool blankets (who can live without those, eh?), a homemade beeswax candle, a local artisan honey pot, and a reclaimed pumpkin I create for my online shop.
While it's stuffed full right now, let's take a peek at it with the lining so you can see the pretty inside too. Lining baskets really dresses them up. Have you ever tried it?
