Y'all ready for some fun? I sure hope you enjoy stopping by my part of the online world to giggle, to be inspired, and most of all have fun. In the past I've repeatedly said how I never skip over the wood section of the thrift store. Potential awaits! Just like this primitive bin I found. Today, it's going to become farmhouse cobbler bin. tee hee.

The key factor I look for in a project is that it is solid wood. Plywood ain't my jam because it's hard to rework. This bin is made of solid pine boards, so I tuck it in my cart.

I'm assuming by the Noah's Ark wallpaper it was either for a kid or a gal who loves prim. Plenty of storage inside and even has a couple of handles on the side for a rustic feel.
DIY TIME
First, I peel off the wallpaper border and see what I'm dealing with. Then, my sander comes out to play. I'm not aiming to remove all the paint, but rather give it a time-worn feel.

While I'm out in my workshop, I found enough lumber to make a plank lid for the bin. Not only did I feel a lid would give it a bit more function, but also keep the dust from getting inside. Here it is in rough layout...
MORE FUN
Next, once the prep work is complete, I added a washed layer of milk paint. And, true to myself, I had to add some typography. ahem.

It is such fun for me to design graphics for my work. Also, the artistic therapy I get from taking the time to hand paint it all in is quiet time. I use that time to pray, praise, and reflect. Do you have time like that?
If you'd like to try your hand at doing a similar thing, you can see my transfer tutorial
HERE or see how I work it out in my video below.
COMPLETE
Check.it.out. My once prim bin is now a funkdafied vintage vibin' farmhouse cobbler bin. woot!

By the way, the entire time I was working on this, I had a favorite little polka playing in my head by The Gaylords called "The Little Shoemaker". I dare you to listen and NOT tap your foot. It's such a happy tune!

The top I built added that little touch it needed for form and function. Now you can tuck in toys, shoes, yarn, TP...you get the idea. What would you use it for?

As a matter of fact, if you'd like to own this fun little bin, you can find it and more available in
my online store.

Also, do pin and share my farmhouse cobbler bin to inspire others to make their own home story with thrifted finds.
UP NEXT
In contract, up next I'll be taking this dilapidated gun cabinet and giving it a new look and purpose. Check it out
