Quirky is a word I would use to describe my brain. haha. Yes, quirky, creative, and engaged (like...all the time). I take any misfit wooden pieces she can throw my way. Enter in Henry (I lovingly named him such) - a misfit cock who needs a new lease on life. He's the star of my farmhouse chicken sign yet to be. Wooden Chicken Before | prodigalpieces.com In a way, of sorts, you could call me broody for my own bunch of hens (or animals, period). It has long been a dream of mine to have chicken with their fluffy butts adorning my property. So, of course, I couldn't pass up this misfit. Henry stands about 10" tall, has a broken dowel sticking out his feet, a wire with some sort of football-ish looking bead attached to it, and a wall mount slot on the back. hmmm... I scratch my head much like a chicken scratches the ground wondering what in the world his original purpose was?? DIY TIME

At any rate, no matter his past, right? It's time to give this fella a new lease on life. In order to complete my vision, I head out to my wood stash and pull out this piece of plywood. First, I want to cut it to size, so I use my small circular saw and my Rip-Cut Jig to cut a large square. Next, I apply a whitewash of paint to create more layers. Painting Farmhouse Chicken Sign | prodigalpieces.com

NEXT STEPS

Per my normal, I love to add typography. Obviously, with a farmhouse chicken sign there is typography to be added. Yay! I use my transfer method to take my design and prepare it for application. Then, I trace my prepared design onto my plywood square, followed by painting in the design. Tracing Design for Farmhouse Chicken Sign by Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com

When I first saw the rooster, I was thinking what can be made from this. Never would I have thought to use the rooster as part of a sign. GENIUS!!! I love it!! The phrase is perfect. We all need as many laughs as we can get these days. This brought a big smile to my face Great job!!!!

That's gorgeous! I love it. As a chicken owner myself, though, I have to point out I'm pretty sure that's a Henrietta, not a Henry. :)

Thanks! Just named it as my littlest wanted. I knew too. ;) Fluffy butts are typically referred to the hens.
