The last Tuesday of every month (or so I try) I get so excited to share with you a
Reduce, Reuse, REFASHION project with you. Not only does this allow me to get my stitch fix, but also my crafty side gets to play. While I don't always sew, I definitely like to get to use different mediums. Take today, for instance... I found this papier mâché pig at the thrift store. Let's create a fun sculpture to make a a fabric scraps pig. Yay!
Why would anyone not want this cute? Well, he has a little wear, and his ear is broken. awww...
Not a problem! All I need to do is re-paper it with water and glue and he's good to go.
SCRAPPY FUN
As I mentioned, not all my refashion projects are sewing. Take, for instance, here are some past non-sewing projects for you:
Okay, so now you get the idea how much fun it is to refashion, right? Today, you won't believe how simple this recreation is.
First, I repair the sow's ear and let that cure. Meanwhile, I grab a roll of my DIY bedsheet yarn.
What is that? Well, if you remember, I made a large basket using bedsheet yarn and crocheting it. Take a
peek at it HERE. You can see how I make the yarn in that post and here is what a join looks like below.
Then, using my hot glue gun and my bedsheet yarn after I cut a strip off of the join I originally made, I anchor the strip to the inside of the back foot. So...I'm basically making a pink pig mummy...ahem.
I begin with the appendages (legs, ears, tails) first so that when I wrap the body, the wrapping is cohesive.
After that, once those are complete, I move on to the snout and work towards the rear. While I am anchoring each piece with a bead of glue, it's basically just wrapping and more wrapping.
However, before I call it quits, I add a bit of my own artistic touch using vintage toggle buttons and brown wax.
NO PIGGIN' AROUND
Are you ready to see my fabric scraps pig? My cutie-patootie-piggy is ready to go!
If you'll notice, my sweet swine is joined by another piggy. This lil' guy is made from a vintage Arbuckle's sugar sack.
At this point, we have Arbuckle and...? Our little fabric scraps pig needs a name.
As always, I totally have fun sharing my imagination, but ultimately, my goal is to inspire you. DIY doesn't have to mean HUGE or seemingly impossible. You can do it too!
