In my last post, I began a fun adventure to show you what I would do with this curbside haul. My journey began with the antique pie crust table and today I'm tackling that 80's hunting scene shelf. My goal is to show you how to take something that may not fit your decor and make it new. Join me as I transform that shelf into cottage style home decor. Curbside Haul with First Project Done - More to Come at Prodigal Pieces | prodiglapieces.com Now, let me just say that I love dogs and animals, but this blast from the past with wallpaper border as art just isn't my thing. I had some of you ask to save it for you, but that wasn't possible to get out without tearing it up. 1980's Hunting Scene Shelf Before Makeover by Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com

DIY FUN

Onward we go! Since I removed that artwork, I needed to replace the back. However, before I did that I wanted to brighten up the entire project. First, I filled in all the holes with wood filler and then sanded with my sander. Then, I used the Flat White on the shelf itself. Meanwhile, I cut a piece of beadboard and painted it with the Vintage Teal. Larissa, I love the new look of the shelf - it went from hunter-man-cave family room to cheerful summer cottage! Thanks for continuing to inspire me. Have a blessed week and Happy Mother's Day!

Larissa -- Just curious, how do you know when to paint with actual paint and when to spray paint. I have gone back and forth as well but was not sure if there was a rule of thumb you used to guide yourself.

Wow! LOVE that pop of color! What a complete change! you know....I don't know why but I didn't think spray paint was for wood. Weird, huh? This looks wonderful, Larissa. As always, what you touch turns beautiful! Have a blessed Mother's Day!

Very fresh and cute now! I really like your "wood"graining vs. just whitewashing! I really like Christy of Confessions' "working through a haul" series, so I'm excited to see you doing it too! There's something motivational about seeing someone else FINISH something. Maybe I should start blogging my projects so I finish more too, haha! I can't wait to see your next project!

Larissa, another winner! Everyone is using the wood grain tool these days. Maybe I will try it when i come across something to try it on. You did a wonderful job with yours. I was going to order your nail gun but i have a question, maybe 2. Is your battery operated? The link takes me to one that doesn't come with a battery. I do not want one that you have to use air. Drop me a line.

Yay! You got what I was after, Judy. Thanks and Happy Mother's Day to you too!

Mostly for ease in most instances. This wouldn't have been so fun to paint with a brush. But often its if I want to avoid strokes too.

Woot! I'm so glad you like my color scheme, Patty. Thank you! Right back at ya. Happy Mother's Day!

Thanks! They sure are fun to have tools. This nailer is battery-operated and the link has it as just the tool, but you can get a battery and charger separately. I have a pneumatic one too and this Ryobi one is far better, and easier to use.
