Okay, folks, I've been promising the final makeover of furniture from our girls' bedroom remodel. As you can tell, we stuck to a similar style of furniture. At the beginning, I sold their mirrored dresser as-is, refinished the
hutch desk, and also this
chest of drawers. Now it's time for an updated French Provincial chest of drawer makeover in the third round.
This ol' gal is standing strong after many years of use. It's solid, but needs some TLC. It reminds me of myself...feeling wore out and needing some self care to feel new again. Thankfully,
I've been giving me much needed attention and I plan to do the same for this chest of drawers. Just for the record, I did NOT double knob this thing. I can't stand when someone puts two knobs to fill a spot of an appropriate pull. We bought it that way for the temporary use.
GETTING STARTED
First, aside from giving it a good cleaning, I start by applying one coat of BIN primer by Zinsser. This stuff makes paint stick to any surface, PLUS prevents bleed-through and (if need be) contains any odors, including cigarette smoke. See what I mean

Using a micro-foam roller makes this job easy and gives me a smooth base coat to work with. It only take 5-10 minutes for the primer to cure and I'm ready for my paint. Now, I wanted to be more bold with this updated vintage chest makeover than I was with my last one. A rustic yellow came to mind and here is what I end up with...a milk paint.
Oh wow...that's umm....yellow! It reminds me of
this vintage chest I did a few years back. However, my legit first flashback was of all my 6 babies and their breastfed diapers. bwahahaha! I totally laughed out loud. I dip my brush in and have at it. Then, while I'm painting, my mind went from diapers to my homemade hot pretzels with mustard, to a school bus I hated, and finally out to my lovely sunflowers growing in my garden. Not sure which sets with you, but I'll stick with my sunflowers, k?
DRESSING UP
While the paint cures, I'm excited to say that I found I have 4 bail pulls in my stash from the dresser my daughter
made over HERE. However, if you notice, I need 5.
Since I knew a few weeks ahead, I am able to find a matching one to my set online. whew! Not only did it take me oodles of hunting, but also I don't quit easy.
Finally, as soon as I know the paint is cured, I grab my brown wax and apply it following my brush strokes.
SUNSHINE
Ready for some vintage sunshine? Last, here is the updated French Provincial chest of drawers ready for many more years of life.
It's fun, it's refreshing, and certainly better than the before. Also, the design of these vintage French Provincial pieces lets the curves say it all. The white bail pulls make it have a bit of contrast too, don't you think?
On the other hand, while I could've went with any color, I'm happy with this one. What color would you choose?
