Do you ever find yourself walking through a garage sale or thrift store and spy something that you just can't help feeling sorry for? Like, "Aww...poor thing, I must take you home and give you new life" kinda thing? That's what happened to me when I saw this...let's say "dated" to be nice, bamboo stand. I just had to give this thrifted plant stand a fresh new look. I want to show you how easy it can be to create the look you are after in your own home on a budget.
If you follow me on social media, you know that I have caused an injury to my right shoulder. It's something that I knew would happen at some time or another because of all the factory and laborious jobs I've had with repetitive motions would catch up to me. I am taking it easy on it and researching my alternatives. Meanwhile, like the stubborn nut I am, ...I'm using my left arm. ha! That's when this song pops in my head:
ain't nothing gonna hold me back. ain't nothin' gonna slow me down. oh no. i've got to keep on movin'.
If you know that artist and year that came out, you are as golden as I am. tee hee hee.
DIY TIME
Boy, did I have a time getting the preformed foam out of there. I had to slice it up and then dig it out with my garden spade. It was quite the nasty project, but I got it done nonetheless. On to the fun part.
While I am typically infatuated with
my paint sprayer and large shelter, I mentioned a while back
in this post how I fell in love with this small spray shelter by HomeRight. It pops up in seconds, protects all areas, and folds down flat for awesome storage capabilities. To give this thrifted plant stand a new look, I just taped off an area for a contrasting stripe and popped it in my tent. Notice the left arm action going on. ;-)
Since I used this awesome RustOleum paint, only one coat was needed. After letting it dry, I just peeled off the tape to reveal my wood stripe accent.
NEXT STEPS
Since I removed the flowers, you may be wondering what I was going to put inside the planter. Well, I had in my mind to use one of these gorgeous gallon glass jars I recently scored at a barn sale. This was one of those sales that is waaaay out in the boonies and while I'm driving I'm thinking to myself..."is this smart??" I did score a whole bunch of goodies that I've been having fun playing with.
Here is the thrifted plant stand with a whole new look.
It looks fab in my bedroom as I normally have a gallon glass jar stuck inside a coconut skin basket with my grasses sticking out for a natural touch. All the stand needed was a little updating to give it new life.
As much as I love it, I've decided to add it to
my shop as I don't
need it. sigh.. So if you would love to have this set as your own, you can find it for sale along with many other goodies.
