What's a gal to do when every week she heads to the get groceries, she finds that her neighbor leaves out
trashure gold? I mean really...first week an iron bird cage. Second week, a like-new pet pen, Melissa & Doug bricks for kids, and some other finds. Then, the third week I see this which leads me to a thrifted basket makeover.
Obviously, my eyes went straight to that beautiful entertainment stand (though missing drawers and broken back - still beautiful). However, on closer inspection, I find more goodies. Also, notice the cardboard in the trash. tsk. We have recycling pickup every week, and yet folks are lazy. Anyhoo, I found this basket stuffed into one of those boxes. Definitely not trash, correct?
There's not a stitch wrong with it, it's sturdy, and heavy too. I'll get to the entertainment stand soon enough. But for now, let's focus on this basket for a mini makeover. While the basket is fine by itself, I just want to show what you can do with something like this to make it your own.
NEW HEIGHTS
While there are many ways to use this in your home (bathroom, kitchen, laundry, bedroom, living room), I also want to show how to add a story to it instead of just filling it up with "stuff". First, I find this antique wooden pulley from a local buyer. I just love pieces like this and wish it could tell me all the stories of working in a barn.
In order to make my vision come to life, I need to add some chain and a few rusty bits and baubles from my stash to make it complete. I mean, doesn't everyone save the chain off their
patio swing? hee hee
Thankfully, my Dremel makes quick work of slicing the chain so I can attach it to my basket and pulley. If you've never used one before, it's easily one of my favorite tools. Check out my past projects

FINAL TOUCHES
After a bit of assembly and added reclaimed barn wood and a vintage hook, here's my thrifted basket makeover in its final state. I'm stoked!
It totally suits my style for making use of the cast-offs in more ways than one. Not only can it be used for bits and baubles, but pretty much anything...plants, towels, food...you get the idea.
Can you imagine how many hay bales this pulley lifted? Or how many hands used it on a daily basis. I get goosebumps.
As always, my goal is to inspire you to create with whatever you come upon. Although I found this basket in the trash, who knows what you can do with what you already own. You just need to try. So tell me...what would you fill it with or where would you hang it?
