Are you like me and do a happy dance when flowers return to peek out of the earth with a whole new life ready to bloom? Sigh...spring is definitely a sweet reunion to all my planted companions. Yes, they are my companions and I work hard, my kids too, to make a respite on our city lot. And, because spring is officially around the corner, I'm eager to make a repurposed silverware box into vintage vibin' decor.

Enter in this dynamic duo. As I mentioned in
this previous silverware box post, my friend, Billie, offered them to me for a makeover. If I remember right, the top one belonged to her aunt, and the bottom another family member. What a treat to be gifted these! Look at what's inside...
DIY TIME
The first repurposed silverware box is an Good Housekeeping set that still has a few flatware pieces inside. I favor this box because of the dove-tailed corner design.

However, the second box is by Oneida and has a different design. I love the roses.

Isn't old flatware awesome? I love to think who's handled, the stories it heard while set on a dinner table...so many memories, even though they're not mine.
Well, since I have no need for the boxes as is, it's time for a repurposed silverware box makeover.
First, I remove the hardware and take out the interior lining and parts. Then, it's time to break out the tools (remember my motto: toolsoverjewels!!)

In addition to the shelter, my sprayer is set to do the job. Here are my color choices...both seconds paint, but perfect for the job.

To begin, I simply read the manufacturer instructions how to prep for spraying, fill the canister, and practice the spray flow on scrap wood (or cardboard). Then, it's time to have a blast!

You can see the sprayer in action
in this post or in my video demo below.
NEXT STEPS
Next, my repurposed silverware box makeover needs some fine details. I'm adding stripes and a bit of whimsy with these stencils and
luggage hardware.

Last, but not least, I chose this fun vintage-y fabric for lining. You can watch my video tutorial how to line a box like this below or see
the post HERE.
THE REVEALS
Finally, after getting lost in adding the details, here are my repurposed silverware boxes into vintage style luggage boxes.

Can you tell I had fun? I can't wait to get these done. They took hours, but super fun for me and a great stress reliever. And, you know I had to go with stripes. Because what's vintage luggage without a fun stripe lining?

Also, note the cute
luggage tags. I recreated one I found and printed it transfer paper and applied it to two pieces of canvas, then glued them together.

Aren't the fun? In addition to the yellow, I had to do a green one too. It suits the spring season I so adore.

So, which one for you? I'm partial to both for different reasons. Either way, I had a blast and that's what this is all about...inspiring you. If you'd like to own either or both, you can find them available in
my online store.
