Summer is in high gear and soon we will be thinking about fall. (gasp...did I just say that?) But now, I am thoroughly enjoying all that summer has to offer. My favorite is especially the outdoor times and all there is to relish. Last week, I shared with you
my curbside chest makeover and promised to show you what I would create with this wire holder thingy. Finally, after having it for a year trying to decide what to do with it, I settle on turning it into a repurposed planter. Yes, a planter.
So many of you guessed it was a canning jar lifter...nope. It doesn't hold any of them as the openings are too small. Some suggested a glass holder from the 60's, and that was my first guess too because of the design and rubber tips. But...for the life of me, over a year I couldn't find a single thrifted glass set to fit in those narrow openings.
DIY TIME
I even tried upside down glass insulators...anything! I wasn't going to give up on this cool thing I paid 25 cents for. tsk. It wasn't until I found these tiny jelly molds.
Initially, I'm stoked to get them and was going to turn them into candles as I do many things like this. However, when it dawned on my that they fit into this glass holder I was beside myself! A happy dance I did... tee hee!
My first intent was to fill them with bird seed and turn it into a bird feeder with different treats for our feathered friends. It wasn't until I spied these teeny tiny succulents on sale at the store, that I decided a repurposed planter would be sweet for my patio. Also, remember the
faux bird feeder succulent planter I just created? These will go perfectly with it.
Aren't they cute? I couldn't resist them! I may eventually use this repurposed planter as a bird feeder in the winter, but for now, it will be for my patio. As all good moms do, I borrowed my kids
mud bar to use as my potting table and got them all set up.
THE REVEAL
Now they're ready to rock 'n roll with my patio design.
The remaining jelly molds became useful on
my DIY faux fireplace for candle holders. These things are a treat!
You can imagine how happy we are to have our patio for our first summer. I am having fun adding things here and there. You see how we did it built it all by hand
HERE.
I recently replaced our sofa with this all-weather wicker set because my kids broke the arm off the old one this past winter.
We enjoy
our meals out here, visiting with family and friends, or just long talks.
It's fun to think outside the box when it comes to decorating. Being thrifty and making use of most anything is unique and adds contrast to your home. Pin and share my repurposed planter to encourage others to do try to see objects in a different light.
