Summer is in high gear and soon we will be thinking about fall. (gasp...did I just say that?) But now, I am thoroughly enjoying all that summer has to offer. My favorite is especially the outdoor times and all there is to relish. Last week, I shared with you my curbside chest makeover and promised to show you what I would create with this wire holder thingy. Finally, after having it for a year trying to decide what to do with it, I settle on turning it into a repurposed planter. Yes, a planter. Wire Holder Finds New Purpose with the Help of Prodigal Pieces | www.prodigalpieces.com So many of you guessed it was a canning jar lifter...nope. It doesn't hold any of them as the openings are too small. Some suggested a glass holder from the 60's, and that was my first guess too because of the design and rubber tips. But...for the life of me, over a year I couldn't find a single thrifted glass set to fit in those narrow openings.

DIY TIME

I even tried upside down glass insulators...anything! I wasn't going to give up on this cool thing I paid 25 cents for. tsk. It wasn't until I found these tiny jelly molds. Vintage Jelly Mold Repurposed into Planter by Prodigal Pieces | www.prodigalpieces.com Initially, I'm stoked to get them and was going to turn them into candles as I do many things like this. However, when it dawned on my that they fit into this glass holder I was beside myself!  A happy dance I did... tee hee! My first intent was to fill them with bird seed and turn it into a bird feeder with different treats for our feathered friends. It wasn't until I spied these teeny tiny succulents on sale at the store, that I decided a repurposed planter would be sweet for my patio. Also, remember the faux bird feeder succulent planter I just created? These will go perfectly with it. Assortment of Miniature Succulents for Repurposed Planter by Prodigal Pieces | www.prodigalpieces.com Aren't they cute? I couldn't resist them! I may eventually use this repurposed planter as a bird feeder in the winter, but for now, it will be for my patio. As all good moms do, I borrowed my kids mud bar to use as my potting table and got them all set up. Filling Repurposed Jelly Molds with Succulents and Soil | Prodigal Pieces | www.prodigalpieces.com

Very nice, I'm still curious about its former life but you did a great job in creating a planter out of it.

Your repurposed planter is nice but the outdoor space is stunning. It seems to look better each time you show it. Nice new outdoor seating unit too!! Enjoy!

'Afternoon. Your planter is just adorable. I love the little molds. I have a bunch of them now I just have to find a holder. Hope you're feeling better. It seems when you catch a bug in the summer it takes twice as long to feel good again. Relax (ha ha) as much as you can and enjoy your peaceful yard. Peace & Love Kim

It sure looks better as a succulent planter than I imagine it would as a tumbler holder as some suggested it may have been. Very nice patio you've got going on!

Yes, I see it now. I don't remember any quite like yours but we had the album or record holders and the glassware holders. And now I am showing my age:) I like your interpretation, it is by far more useful and so pretty on your table.

Seriously girl, only you would come up with a way to pair a mystery metal thingy and old mini jello molds into something totally fabulous!!!? Your outdoor space is so inviting too! Hope you're feeling better soon. xo

It reminds me of the old jam holders I'd see in a country cafe. ?

I thought that too! So fun to reinvent uses for old things. :)

Your mystery thingie is a condiment, syrup, or jelly holder from a diner back in the 50s, 60s, or 70s. The handle on top made it portable and held menus or "daily special" sheets.

Yep, I guess it so, but thought it fun to throw around ideas. I remember them from an old dive my parent's would take us to when I was very young.

Wow! Your back outdoor living space (it’s far too beautiful to be called a patio!) makes me swoon!!! It just goes to prove one can make anything out of almost any space. I love the warmth and coziness you’ve created with your backyard!!
