First, let me say that country living is in my bones and one day I will get there whether here or in heaven. God hasn't seen fit to bless me with that opportunity yet, so I am making the most of my blessings.
Some of the ways I have incorporated my passion into my home is by utilizing the fact that farmhouse is a wide-open interpretation. I tend to lean towards a French/Nordic style with a bit of industrial thrown in. For instance, our master bedroom was a sorry sight.
SWEAT EQUITY

Another of our remodels includes our one and only bathroom for our family of 8. That's not a complaint, just a truth. I have often said I don't mind the size of our home, just wish it were in the country. You can appreciate our process in starting in this post. Our remodels are never normal, so each one is a good read, especially of God's goodness.

Our latest frontier is our kitchen. It is taking us longer than expected, as in pigs will fly before we are done, but... we are getting there. This posts shows your our starting point.

So far, I've mentioned pretty large projects to achieve farmhouse style decor. Let me show you some simple decor that can also get your farmhouse style jump-started. First, I've created a video for you to demonstrate using a pair of thrifted candlesticks.
First, I gave them a base coat color - the exact same base color as my garage door.
Then used a glazing, same as I did in my garage door tutorial or in this other tutorial using a mirror as example.
While the glazing is still wet, I take a lightly damp cloth to wipe it off letting it reside in the crevices. That helps create that texture and depth we all love.
I find creating my own decor give me such satisfaction as opposed to going to the store and buying it ready-made. Yes, I realize some feel they can't do it, but mantra is you don't know until you try.
