Heading on a thrifting journey, whether it's garage saling, curbside shopping, or thrift store shopping, is always full of potential. It's key to keep your eyes open for the obvious, but also those things that can be an asset in the future. For instance, I found these two hooks and have tucked them aside until now. Today, I'm sharing how I build a DIY decoupaged coat rack from finds and scraps. Coat Hooks Before | prodigalpieces.com Who can't use a coat rack or robe/towel rack? They are handy for most any room in your home and can add a touch of whimsy when done right. If you've been following me on social media, you've seen we're nearly complete in our living room remodel. One of the features I've built in is arches. Our home had very boxy features and by adding the arches (which I simply cut in to our wood walls), really breaks up the lines and adds interest. Then, I cased each arch with focus on adding height to the room. While doing that, I made use of a 17" x 48" pine panel to accent the arch. DIY TIME

Of course, a coat rack can look any way you want. Because mine is using this arched scrap wood, I'm wanting to dress it up a bit. First, I cut it to size and then add a planked look using my circular saw on a short depth. This is a great way to create a layered look instantly. Next, I apply a reactive stain that will age the wood in minutes. At the same time, I also spray paint the hooks too. Easy-peasy. One last thing I want to add is the decoupage. If you remember from my last post, I have 3 different types of decorative tissues papers, each 6 foot long. This is not your typical tissue paper, but heavier and easier to use. However, this time I'm using the bird paper. eep! I love it. I agree.... the bird paper is so pretty and happy. ? I love the papers! Can’t wait to see what you do with the third one. What type of glue do you use for the decoupage?

They're just so fun to use. I used a basic school glue with a bit of water. I've always used that for years and does the trick wonderfully.

That is such pretty paper Larissa. I think that is really a great idea. Why go buy something when you can make it yourself. Those hooks are perfect.

Ooooh, I absolutely adore the coat rack, Larissa. I'm a sucker for anything bird-related and that tissue pattern just speaks to me. Took note of how you created the wood slats too - very smart.
