As the time of summer is slowly slipping away, it's when I take time to purge a bit so I can have a workshop that I can feel sane in. haha. I'm sure we all know the feeling of clutter and how invigorating it is to be free of such fuss. With that, I decide what to keep, what to donate, and what to finally give new use. Enter in this remnant piece of a Roman shade I have from
my DIY valances. No doubt many would just toss it. However, I feel I can create DIY bamboo yarn art to make it fun. Ready for the challenge? I am!
While there are many ways I could run with this, I choose to head down memory lane to revisit a time when I was having fun.
CREATING
The first order of business is to remove the blind hardware from the back.
After that, I need to tie up the frayed bottom edge. I use a grosgrain ribbon and hot glue it in place.
That's an easy fix, right? Now it's time to dig out my wool yarn stash. Just so you know, I have more colors than this, but these are what I'm focusing on. A girl's gotta have a stash, just sayin'.

Then, I use a marker to outline the design I'm aiming to do. Can you guess what I'm creating before I start? We'll see if you're right in minute.
YARN LOVE
As I begin my handwork, I am reminded of a similar experience I set myself up for when I thought it would be "fun" to embroider an
antique strainer. Yeah, I'm a nut like that. ahem. I knew my hands would end up sore, so I wrap my thumb in a medical tape as soon as I commence stitching.
After filling in the drawn design, I start to add the texture and elements to really make this DIY bamboo yarn art come to life. Talk about stitch therapy! This kinda thing allows your brain to roll with whatever you're carrying on your shoulders. Oh, and by the way, I'm primarily using a split stitch.
Finally, for more woolly fun, I break out my stash of felted wool and create more accents. Are you ready to see what my hours of sore hands and sore bum produce?
MEET MY LLAMA
Yep, you read that right...my llama.
Have you ever owned a llama? Me neither, but...I had the wonderful experience of housing them. You see, my dad is a smart fella and would allow various animals to come to our country property so they can mow down our pastures. We had cattle, trail horses that need a break, and a few llamas when an owner needed more space. They are not only an amazing creature, but HILARIOUS!!
Raise your hand if you know how a llama will SPIT. Yeah, when dating my husband, I had him come over to meet our woolly friends. They needed fed, so I told him to go into the stall and fill the food troughs. However, I purposely didn't tell him how defensive they are about each other getting near their food. The will throw their ears back, cock their nose up, and stick out their bottom teeth. In one swift spit and the nailed him smack in the side of the head. bwahahahahahaha!!! I told you I'm fun. hee hee.
