There are days where maybe we feel a little like we need a refresh. I know that when spring rolls around after a long, dark winter, I sure enjoy sprucing up my home by decluttering and deep cleaning. With that, many will hand off items to second-hand stores, which is a blessing to many. However, maybe you have something that no longer pulls at your heart strings, but you can't let it go. Well, I'm hoping to inspire you today with this vintage chest nightstand makeover.
At first glance, you can see that this piece is lacking pep, don't you agree? It's missing a knob, has wear to the top, but it also has plenty of storage and oodles of potential.
Not only that, but it is also built solid, unlike many modern pieces today. It even comes with a promise - a penny that reminds me that God will provide in any situation, all the time.
For today's DIY intents, I've got a hankering to enliven it with a new look and style. That way, when you have that tired old piece, you can hang onto it and make it your own.
A REFRESHING
First, let's start with the top. It showcases a lovely wood grain that is begging to be revealed by using my sander to gently love off the original finish.
Here's my
little sidekick, Loula, inspecting my work. I do think she approves, don't you?
As soon as I have the top revealed, I apply two coats of a matte poly to protect it and leave the wood in natural state with no stain.
Then, for the base of the chest nightstand, I choose a soft green paint.
Afterward, as soon as the two coats of paint have cured, I draw out the details with a bit of accent painting in the details.
Last, but not least, I pull out this favorite paper of mine by
Laura Ashley. I found it at a thrift store many years ago and have used it often. This time around, it suits my vision perfectly as well.
WHY, HELLO THERE
Above all, after all is said and done, here is my vintage chest nightstand set up in
my bedroom looking sweet and refreshed as can be. Yay!
Not only is it a wonderfully soft green, now, but also those details that kinda fell into the background are now at the forefront and getting much deserved notice.
Additionally, inside there is the top drawer with new (yet old from my stash) brass knob, with a new bin pull for the bottom bin.
