There are days where maybe we feel a little like we need a refresh. I know that when spring rolls around after a long, dark winter, I sure enjoy sprucing up my home by decluttering and deep cleaning. With that, many will hand off items to second-hand stores, which is a blessing to many. However, maybe you have something that no longer pulls at your heart strings, but you can't let it go. Well, I'm hoping to inspire you today with this vintage chest nightstand makeover. Nightstand Chest Before Makeover | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces At first glance, you can see that this piece is lacking pep, don't you agree? It's missing a knob, has wear to the top, but it also has plenty of storage and oodles of potential. Vintage Open Chest Nightstand Before Makeover by Larissa of Prodigal Pieces | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces Not only that, but it is also built solid, unlike many modern pieces today. It even comes with a promise - a penny that reminds me that God will provide in any situation, all the time. A Penny Blessing | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces For today's DIY intents, I've got a hankering to enliven it with a new look and style. That way, when you have that tired old piece, you can hang onto it and make it your own.

A REFRESHING

First, let's start with the top. It showcases a lovely wood grain that is begging to be revealed by using my sander to gently love off the original finish. Loula checking my work | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces As soon as I have the top revealed, I apply two coats of a matte poly to protect it and leave the wood in natural state with no stain. Painting Chest Nightstand Base a Soft Green | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces Then, for the base of the chest nightstand, I choose a soft green paint. Painting Carved Details on Chest Nightstand | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces Last, but not least, I pull out this favorite paper of mine by Laura Ashley. I found it at a thrift store many years ago and have used it often. This time around, it suits my vision perfectly as well. Laura Ashley Contact Paper | prodigalpieces.com prodigalpieces

I was happy to have found it as it suited what I was looking for to work on. Yes, pets really are a healing balm in many ways...that is until she brings you your brand new shoe she just chewed up. grrr... haha.

I had such a blast with this as I am still bugging out from cabin fever. haha. I get out and run or walk every day, plus take the dog out, but the biting winds and gray days are messing with my head. This was fun! :D Thank you, Sheryl.

What a unique shape! The soft green with natural wood top is refreshing. I always like a fun surprise, and the Laura Ashley paper does exactly that. Much thanks for the smile from your adorable fur babies. I needed that.

The night stand is so pretty. Very unique shape. The soft green and natural wood top look lovely on this piece. Well done, you! By the way, I have been meaning to tell you how cute your hair cut is. And amazed how you did that yourself. But, hey, when you have the skills, utilize them, right?!

Thank you so much, Joanne. I'm so excited that it's headed to NY to a new home today. Yay! You are so very sweet to leave such love. I am LOVING my hair so much...I literally pull it out of my buff in the morning and don't touch it, except for days I refresh when I want to. YES!! (to your comment - I love to do it and has nothing to do with spending money, but rather no one listening to me alllll those years).
